Anyone watching Mare of Easttown?

Here’s what I don’t get : the burner phone.

The kid grabbed his dad’s secret burner phone, texted Erin, and told her to meet at the park. Why didn’t the police see this text? WTH? They should have been able to trace it.

I think Erin called from her burner and that’s why the police didn’t see the call. I don’t recall if that was John’s normal cell but I thought it was. But then why program her in as Erin? Unless it was one of those cell phone guesses.

I think it was because the kid had found out about his dad's burner phone and why it was being used.

Why did DJ have to wind up with Lori at the end? Couldn't he have just stuck with Dylan's parents? Why make everyone miserable?

As PPs pointed out, this never in a million years would have been deemed an acceptable custodial placement in reality.

I was really into this show but disappointed by the end.

I wanted to see some kind of growth from Mare, in particular. But as far as I can tell, she didn't really grow or change at all. She planted drugs on her grandson's mother and she ended up relapsing... that is HORRIFIC. I realize she didn't use the drugs that Mare planted her but Mare actively undermined an addict.

Her "big moment" at the end is that she is willing to go look in the attic and ... think about Kevin? It's unclear.

I also thought it was beyond ridiculous the way she and six other cop cars rolled into a junior high school, lights going ... at the exact moment Kevin was on the playground? What the heck?

Even though it would have been difficult ethically, part of me would have rather seen her choose to delete the video of the incident... simply because it would have been unexpected. Instead we see yet another example of Mare being a stickler and unwilling to deal with her own shit. Although I suppose you could argue that it is a weird inversion of the time she deleted the video of the graffiti guy.

So much potential but I felt very unsatisfied by that ending.

I can’t remember if she is raising DJ because the paternity became public or because she is Erin’s closest family. John is locked up so I can see why they might feel growing up with family is best for the child.

Climbing the ladder was her confronting her grief over Kevin’s death, which is what she was avoiding. She showed up at the school alone. All the cops were at his house, and yes there were a lot of them!

I thought she might delete the video, but she’s a cop and did her job.

John asked/pleaded with Lori to take DJ in after his arraignment. But even a couple of episodes back, John and Lori were talking about taking DJ in after it came out that Dylan wasn’t the father since they were the closest family Erin had that wasn’t in jail (Kenny).

In a town with a drug issue and low income families? People would be surprised how eager social workers are to just get kids placed. Especially if it keeps siblings together.

I came here to post this. I'm confused by this too. And if Erin texted to John's primary phone via her burner, why was it programmed as Erin? Why not program it as "Dentist" or some other alias?

I also don't get why she is ok planting drugs on her grandson's mother but is not ok letting the killer off the hook. The character's motivations aren't consistent. She sometimes lets people off the hook and sometimes doesn't. The number of red herrings was also a bit too much. But I love Kate Winslet so I still like the series.

I disagree. Mare showed a lot of growth in her interactions with Carrie, Frank and her daughter after she started therapy. And at the very end scenes which I believe were 8 months post murder reveal her relationship with Frank and her daughter looked “warm.” But she still was Mare.

The drug planting was a dumb plot point, but the motivation is to protect a child. To me that’s way different than protecting a murderer. Would you be okay with letting a killer off the hook if the killer was an adult?

I couldnt get past this plot hole. the old guy said his gun was there and "then it wasn't" and then it was back again. In the flashback Ryan takes the gun at night and returns it that same night after he shoots Erin. So there is no way the old guy would have known the gun was missing in the first place. I liked it but Mare and all the characters were just giant PA cliches. That whole area looks so bleak, everyone kind of a loser, violent, sleeping with their underage cousins etc. Finally a show that makes the south look more progressive. Jean Smart is awesome though.

It’s not a hole. Gun was in the shed the morning of the prowler. That night he heard a noise (Ryan), went out to the shed and his gun was missing. Months later he sees it back in the shed.
