Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
County trucks haven't even reached some areas for the first time. These areas are walking routes for school students to get to their bus stop! |
If schools aren't open for child care providers, I'm bringing my kids to Carver. Or Taylor's house. |
If PG and FFX called it, he should have no shame in doing so as well |
Until midday, I was hopeful we would open, but now I think the delay will turn into a closure. I teach in the DCC. My school has a lot of walkers who would need to contend with both uncleared sidewalks and sub freezing temps. We also have a high percentage of low income kids and many of them don’t attend school when it rains because they don’t have the right attire. |
You clearly have no idea what is safe to drive on. Notice how the road outside your house has tire tracks on it? You can drive through snow. |
He should and he would, because of all the effort that went into getting the schools ready here. |
The county claims otherwise. People don't know what plowed roads look like. |
And then what? You can’t go inside. Even if you got in, you can’t leave them there and go to work. You’d just be inconveniencing yourself and subjecting your kids to the cold. |
They yell/cry pretty loud. Someone will let them in if admin offices are open. |
They handle things that have to occur year round such as special ed paperwork compliance, buying supplies, overseeing construction… |
| I think 5 am announcement will be schools are closed. |
You won’t get further than the front lobby without an appointment. I work for MCPS and I can’t even use my ID to stroll into Carver to use the bathroom. Once you’re in the lobby, what is your plan? Hopefully your kids are too young to be embarrassed when you are escorted out. |

I've only got a HS student left at this point, so it's easier to be less outraged about the closures. But I'm personally just baffled. It's not rocket science. Plow are all over the place (I saw one plowing Silver Creek MS yesterday, so not sure why someone upthread says it's not clear.)
Yes there will be some messy sidewalks still. Yes, the low income kids who don't come to school when it rains because they lack weather-proof clothing may not come to school when there is still snow on the ground. But most kids can get safely to most schools 3 days after an 8" snowfall. How is it possible that anyone thinks it's reasonable to keep them home another day? And what happens next week if there's more snow? |
So they could have been working since Tuesday like literally everyone else, but instead got free days off. |
Ok so those kids aren’t coming but other kids can still get an education. This is ridiculous |
