MCPS delayed Thursday?

Why would they call it without verifying all the schools?

Not necessarily. It says they WILL be reevaluating by early morning and if necessary will announce a closure by 5 am

Maybe it will depend on how hungover the administrators are from all the partying

Gross

Probably not far from the truth, though.

No. Administrators have families and jobs just like you. Don't join cyberbullying just because you think it's casual fun.

You don't think people with families or jobs drink? Look at Feds the first day of a government shutdown. They hit the bars.

Drinking is passé now

There going to call it in as a closure at 5 a.m, leaving us parents scrambling for childcare. They've done it many times.

Where are the pictures? The comments in posts from today don't have any of schools. At least, I don't see any. What post are you looking under there?

Right! Because the pictures aren’t there it just mean all schools are plowed

There are lots of pictures posted under the thread, "How are the schools near you looking?"

Scroll thru, there are lots of pictures, all from this afternoon/evening.

Thanks. Oddly I needed to sign in on a desktop browser to get that post to come up.

One interesting thing about that thread is that there are several pictures showing obviously-plowed lots where the poster is just upset there's still snow showing.

e.g., Greenwoods ES, Beverly Farms ES, College Gardens ES, Brooke Grove ES, Argyle MS, Clarksburg HS, Kennedy HS, Damascus HS are all cases where the poster was ostensibly claiming the school was bad, but then posted a picture of a plowed lot! Wacky.

Ones like Silver Creek MS were quite bad, but subsequent posts said they were cleared.

I don't think people know what plowed snow looks like. If you don't use salt, and we generally don't, there's going to be a layer of snow. That's what you're seeing in most cases. Don't let the color scare you. You can drive and walk on it.

Silver Creek (the school in the photo you linked to) is clear now.

Are you sure???? Why would they make the two hour delay with an unfinished parking lot?

Lots of time for the county trucks to come back.

MCPS is clearly trying to reopen schools. Give them a break. I doubt that Taylor is going to get much sleep tonight. It is a huge responsibility

Did you see the post I was replying to? They said there was pictures of schools and bus loops.

I found one report (no photo), by the way, that was a blatant lie. I know because I live in the same neighborhood and saw the school myself.

So name the school lol

Germantown, Great Seneca Creek, Matsunaga, McNair, Kingsview, and Northwest all clear.

Yep. They prob wanted to call closed already but knew parents' reactions. They may be waiting until morning to decide whether to call Code Red or Code Orange latter being childcare in school buildings may be open.

Okay, well, I disagree. Most of those pictures of bus loops don't look safe for a bus to drive on, and I personally looked at Oakland Terrace's about an hour ago and it looks bad too.

County trucks don't plow school parking lots/bus loops.

Kids in wheelchairs need to be able to access sidewalks and ramps. We just live in a world that of isn’t accessible to everyone, it will be accessible to no one. Fear of suing etc….

This is what happens to huge county districts that sometimes get snow but can’t budget every year for top notch gear and removal services like the northeast can.

Agree. On top of all this is the buses that drive cross county for programs, the bus loops at schools and whether buses can enter and leave safely. And whether steps are clear of ice and walkable for everyone. And can walkers get to and from school safely.
