Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| Expecting a delay tomorrow.. |
| Open on time |
|
Can anyone tell me what will be different tomorrow from today? There won’t be much melting today.
I’m not arguing for schools to be closed, I’m wondering why they are not open today. |
| 8 inches of snow on Monday. No school Tuesday and Wednesday. Isn't this enough time to clean up and prepare? |
What's your point? Closed Thursday and Friday. They won't even bother to give a reason. Taylor has already left on a mini winter vacation. |
| I say either a delay Thursday and Friday or open on time both days. Nothing will chance substantially between the days so it'll be the same call: overly cautious or "this is over." |
The county didn’t finish plowing roads until yesterday evening, and according to the snow page, there was a lot of drift in Poolesville and Damascus. |
|
I expect to report on time tomorrow.

| Since they knew this storm was coming (just look at the discussion on this forum that was started before we even got any snow), MCPS could have gotten it together to go Code Purple for Tuesday and today. And even for tomorrow. People on here bashing McKnight over hard-to-call snow days last January for not getting Virtual learning on snow days. This new team had time to plan. Does no one want to work?? |
Virtual isn't allowed under state law until and unless MCPS uses all of their make-up days. Which isn't going to happen because MCEA probably won't let them use 1/29. And this is a good thing after we saw what MCPS pulled last year. |
| I don’t think Code Purple is a thing anymore. Virtual school was a joke when it was everyday, so trying to make it happen for one day just isn’t smart. |
They have it as one of the Codes. Use it. If not planning to use it, delete it as an option. |
Which means the roads were plowed today. And every school I went by yesterday had parking lots and sidewalks already cleared. They could have opened today. They could have opened *on time* today, but at least could have opened with a delay if they wanted a chance to clean things up. And certainly there is no excuse for closing child care programs. |
What exactly would they have gotten together? And for how long? Tons of people bashed the virtual day last year. In a county that is so big, there will always be a loud unhappy contingent. |
Unless you checked all 200 schools, your observation is limited. |
