It would be weird to have anything other than an on-time start, no? Am I missing something here? I'm not sure why you'd even ask.

I wasn’t trying to be funny! With freezing wind today I doubt the sidewalks etc will look any different than today…

The neighborhoods around me are an absolute mess and I’m surprised school was open today. My car did some slipping and sliding. But that ship has sailed. I think MCPS felt pressured because they didn’t build in enough snow days.

Maybe also because the rest of society went back to normal on Tuesday and perhaps somewhere deep down inside they felt shame.

Neighboring school districts closed today….

Frederick and DC Public Schools were open today.

And PG and Howard were not.

Are we sure Taylor knows it's going to be below freezing tomorrow morning?

Why does that matter? We can open. It is fine. And yes he knows

At this point you're trolling.

As a parent, I’m surprised we’re not delayed tomorrow. Tons of black ice in my neighborhood and high schools start so early it’s still dark.

The parent drop off loop at our school was not plowed today (at all). Parents had to drop off students in the staff parking lot and enter at the back of the building. Hopefully that will be plowed and cleared for tomorrow.

Trauma counseling will be available tomorrow for affected drivers.

It's not dangerously windy.

These excuses continue to get more and more ridiculous.

Have these people never been outside their home in January ever before? I am sure Midwesterners laugh at us and our need to shut down schools because it's 18 degrees. If that's the case, maybe winter vacation should be a thing and kids go to school throughout summer

Our region also has dangerous heat days.

The solution could be to split the school year into Sept-Dec and then March to June. Run school based on hours rather than days. Parents whose kids are well-prepared to frolic below 20 or above 90 can send them to outdoor camps for six weeks during the off periods.
