Does no one want to work??

What exactly would they have gotten together? And for how long? Tons of people bashed the virtual day last year. In a county that is so big, there will always be a loud unhappy contingent.

Duh - Gotten together a virtual day plan, one that is half day synchronous and the other half asynchronous. It is not only for academics for students especially the younger ES students - they could see their teacher and peers for a short time even if it's only to talk about how they drank hot chocolate or went sledding. An hour or two of virtual would benefit teachers and students.

I’m not arguing for schools to be closed, I’m wondering why they are not open today.

The county didn’t finish plowing roads until yesterday evening, and according to the snow page, there was a lot of drift in Poolesville and Damascus.

Which means the roads were plowed today. And every school I went by yesterday had parking lots and sidewalks already cleared.

They could have opened today. They could have opened *on time* today, but at least could have opened with a delay if they wanted a chance to clean things up. And certainly there is no excuse for closing child care programs.

Unless you checked all 200 schools, your observation is limited.

211 to be precise and offices.

They have it as one of the Codes. Use it. If not planning to use it, delete it as an option.

In theory they could bring it back under limited circumstances. But they don't have a current plan for it, nor have they met the legal requirements to call a virtual day even if they did.

That's not an instructional day. And it obviously shouldn't count as one.

And how would you propose providing special education supports and services? Are you going to send paraeducators and therapists out to homes?

It's a good thing that MCPS isn't doing virtual days. Look at the joke they had last year.

So create a Discord and send the link around. PTA can handle this.

I'm not going out in this weather.

MCPS can't fix this. The solution is to get back to the same era when a family had 2 parents and not full time worker. A society where children can't be in their own homes for a few days per year is a broken society.

The kids aren't going to drop off of Youtube or Minecraft to talk to their teachers about chocolate. That doesn't do anyone any good.

You realize that people would complain about that too, right?

(And yes, I already submitted a request to the county).

Schools will be closed tomorrow I bet.

Someone commented that the last time it snowed this much, schools were closed for a week. Likely the same story this time.
