Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Early release |
Both! 2 hour delay with an early release! Or, maybe they'll bring back covid-era A/B scheduling tomorrow. |
It would be weird to have anything other than an on-time start, no? Am I missing something here? I'm not sure why you'd even ask. |
I think the PPs are trying to be funny. |
I wasn’t trying to be funny! With freezing wind today I doubt the sidewalks etc will look any different than today… |
The sun melts snow and ice even when it is below freezing. Go for a walk - you will see it. |
The neighborhoods around me are an absolute mess and I’m surprised school was open today. My car did some slipping and sliding. But that ship has sailed. I think MCPS felt pressured because they didn’t build in enough snow days. |
Maybe also because the rest of society went back to normal on Tuesday and perhaps somewhere deep down inside they felt shame. |
And did we close today? |
It sounds like you were able to make it through. As did others. And many before them that drove or walked when conditions were worse. |

Friday will be a normal bell schedule. I had to drive around MoCo today for various errands, and the roads and sidewalks were fine. The worse was my own side street, in fact! *After* I got home at lunchtime, the plow showed up But I had been able to get out this morning anyway, since quite a few cars and delivery vans had already compacted the snow.

It's a sunny day pretty close to the melting point, so yes, things will melt a bit. But we're not getting the big melts and refreezes like other storms. There's also the advantage that the main roads now are very well cleared, and aren't getting much meltwater that will refreeze. |
I don't think the PPs were trying to be funny. My HS kid just got home and he said a couple of teachers said they thought there might be a delay tomorrow because of cold temps/ice. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they delayed. |
Was thinking delay not closure |
We already know the roads and sidewalks are OK from this morning. There's no need to assess tomorrow. |
