MCPS delayed Thursday?

What exactly would they have gotten together? And for how long? Tons of people bashed the virtual day last year. In a county that is so big, there will always be a loud unhappy contingent.

Because virtual doesn’t give them a place to park their kids.

I’m not arguing for schools to be closed, I’m wondering why they are not open today.

The county didn’t finish plowing roads until yesterday evening, and according to the snow page, there was a lot of drift in Poolesville and Damascus.

Which means the roads were plowed today. And every school I went by yesterday had parking lots and sidewalks already cleared.

They could have opened today. They could have opened *on time* today, but at least could have opened with a delay if they wanted a chance to clean things up. And certainly there is no excuse for closing child care programs.

Unless you checked all 200 schools, your observation is limited.

Show a picture of your unplowed school then.

I can show you my unplowed street.

If you're across from a school, sure. Surely you don't think we should close all schools across the county if one residential street is difficult to drive on.

Though, I'd still like to see it. In particular, I'd like to see if there are tire tracks demonstrating you can drive on it.

Your delusions of self-importance are noted and mocked.

Easier for the Super to make cutesy videos than actual solve problems and work to educate our kids.

Schools will be closed tomorrow I bet.

Someone commented that the last time it snowed this much, schools were closed for a week. Likely the same story this time.

I think I count myself among many parents who would blow their tops if schools are closed Thursday. (I don't even have a school-aged kid, but my toddler's preschool follows MCPS's schedule even though everything is plowed around here and we're near a Metro stop.)

I'm not going out in this weather.

With how ridiculous some of the posters are here, I honestly can't tell if you're joking... It's fine out...

So you think all 211 schools and offices are shoveled?

I have kids in HS and have lived in the county since the younger one was born. I’d strongly suggest that you mentally prepare that this is how it is and make plans (for the years to come) accordingly.

PP, I get it's a county-wide system and they can't open if even 1 school can't open safely. But even for this area, getting the snow cleared county-wide by Thursday for a storm that ended Monday/early Tuesday morning should not be a heavy lift.

And for my situation right now, it's a little different when the school you're paying $2000/mo for is closed, not the public school.

It’ll likely be open or late start Thursday for MCPS. But no one would care if you “blew your top” either way.

Probably delayed due to all the ice still on neighborhood roads. So windy and cold.

This is the Montgomery County Public Schools board.

In real life, the people who I heard complaine thought it should in-person school or a full day off. None of this in the middle stuff.

Virtual isn't allowed under state law until and unless MCPS uses all of their make-up days. Which isn't going to happen because MCEA probably won't let them use 1/29.

And this is a good thing after we saw what MCPS pulled last year.

How is it MCEA’s choice whether to use 1/29? It is already an option for MCPS. Who is running the show here?
