Military observations on Ukraine invasion

The Russians military theory is something like this

Fry: "I heard one time you single-handedly defeated a horde of rampaging somethings in the something something system"
Brannigan: "Killbots? A trifle. It was simply a matter of outsmarting them."
Fry: "Wow, I never would've thought of that."
Brannigan: "You see, killbots have a preset kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them until they reached their limit and shut down. Kif, show them the medal I won."

Then they could claim that WE attacked them. However I have no experience in military things at all.

What the f are you smoking? You think this is a tv show? You think they are just playing games? They are dying. If nato gets involved the Russians are done. These long columns of vehicles, Russian ships in the Black Sea, etc are all gone. Russians would not be able to move or resupply. Google The Highway of Death and that was 30 years ago.

I don’t think it is a tv show. What I do think is that it is suspicious that what was supposed to be one of the greatest armies in the world is turning out to be the Keystone cops. It seems just a bit too easy that they are being so well battered by a bunch the army, some former dentists and farmers in a small country. Putin is many things but he’s not stupid and it just doesn’t sit right with me. Hey I could be totally wrong but could they REALLY be this inept?

The Ukraine has a standing military of 200k and reserves of 500k. These are not dentists and farmers. When you send 130k in to fight you are not playing mind games or trying to be cute. The Russians have sent their best in. Their spetsnaz and paratroopers(elite troops) have suffered very high casualties and have been forced off their objectives. Some of those units are no longer functioning. The Russians military has alway been horrible. In WW2 they went through basically 3 full armies before they started to figure out how to fight. They lost 6.8 million soldiers. In some battles they would lose 600k and all the equipment. Watch this documentary on Amazon -the soviet storm world war 2 in the east. It will give you a feel for how the Russians fight.

To the “suspicions” poster:

- the Ukrainians are in an existential conflict. They fight on their own soil to protect their own families. They lose everything unless they win. This is total war for them. They remind me of the under-equipped and out-numbered Israelis, who nonetheless prevail again and again.

- the average Russian soldier was lied to by their own commander. Some soldiers were told “just a training exercise.” Others were told: “actual Nazis have suddenly emerged and have taken over Ukraine! Your mission is to ‘rescue’ the poor Ukrainian people from the Nazis!”

- except, now the Russian soldiers see, with their own eyes, their army is just slaughtering civilians; bombing hospitals. There are no Nazis (and never were any).

The average Russian likely just wants to go home alive now. Nothing more.

Drones now rule the battlefield.

I bumped my post from p. 1

This song greeted the Russian delegation in Turkey today.

If there's a 40-mile-long convoy of Russian tanks and other vehicles outside of Kyiv, on an open road, why can't Ukraine just bomb the sh!t out of them? They've been there for days, if not a week and it's not like they're hiding.

How are you going to do it? Do you think the convoy is protected by anti aircraft systems? The Ukraines are in prepared defensive position, they do not have control of the airspace and do not have long range strike capabilities.

I heard this morning at least some of the convoy had dispersed into fields and woods.

They were chased out by Ukrainians with anti-tank weapons, and have regrouped to encircle the capital for an all-out assault.

Indeed.

Instagram translates to 🇺🇦 Rosgvardiya (Chechen) soldiers outside Kiev- it's an advanced unit. Maybe not as high as Spetsnaz or higher and ex Russian special forces? IDK

A third Russian major general has been killed in Ukraine.

There are strong indications that Belarus may join Russia in the war. What happens if they do? WWIII?

Rosgvardia is just the Russian National Guard. They’re not necessarily Chechen.

It is not a real country, Belarus. It’s effectively a part of Russia, under Putin’s actual control.

I agree. I don’t think anything happens except maybe some more soldiers and equipment are sent to fight. However, I think the surrounding countries like Poland, get really nervous.

At this point, the Belarus leader may well be considering his options. He knows Putin can't last that long, and that tying himself to this war will just bring him down as well. I think he tries to avoid direct Belarus involvement of troops, to plausibly deny Belarus took part when everything comes to a bloody end.
