NYT article on LCPS high school re: racism

But the part where is said at the boy's "maternal family gatherings that the N-word was thrown around sometimes". So that's acceptable? You won't catch me saying it but it needs to be bad for *everyone*, not only for some. Sorry, lost my support at that part.

Are you familiar with the 11 rules of discussing racism?
https://www.uua.org/files/pdf/d/diangelo-white_fragility_and_the_rules_of_engagement.pdf
I'd bet this entire thread hits all 11. But you went right to #5.

5. Feedback must be given immediately, otherwise it will be discounted because it was not given
sooner.

Um, my understanding is that she posted in support of the protests, and the young man called her a hypocrite because of her use of the n-word in a Snapchat video four years earlier.

What?

How is that racist?

Maybe read the article that’s the subject of the thread before you comment on it.

NP. Huh? I thought that he was 1/2 white?

Can he use the N word?

Are we saying that 15 year olds can’t learn and change?

No you aren't.

Also that is so racist that it implies that an entire race of people can't distinguish between singular and plural.

Omg shut up . You and your bratty kids can say it all you want but people get to decide how to respond to you when you do.

What is it that we teach children?

Oh yeah, sticks and stones....

Naw apparently some of you teach your kids it’s okay to say the N word because it’s somehow not racist

Either its racist for everybody or its racist for no one. No double standards.

And social media will break your bones.

Only because people don't get physical anymore.

Does intersectionality have a solution?

White people are obsessed with being able to say the N-word. That's peak privilege. I am black. I don't say it. Even if I wanted to - I don't. Get over it.

I don't think anyone here is saying that white people (or anyone for that matter) should say that word. People just want clarification from the justice warriors on the rules, ok.

Black people are obsessed with criminalizing the use of the N-word by anyone who isn’t Black. That’s peak vengeance. I say it whenever I feel like it, and any other Black person should feel equally free to do so as well, especially if it’s in music heavily marketed to kids. Love it!

I’ve read that a full scholarship has now been arranged for the girl at another university, taking her remorse into account.

Jimmy will be lucky if he gets a gig playing Goofy or Pluto at Disney Land in full costume. A degree from Vanguard University isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

Not surprised. She was clearly the victim. Poor girl. Life has been hard for her.
