I think the bench players do play on varsity b or JV, but the boys also want to dress and be part of the main varsity team. |
Anyone see madlax 2022 team play? Went from average to one of the best around. Does they pickup a bunch of reclassed 2021 kids for different schools or have all the kids just come in the their own? |
SSSAS girls are now ranked above BI. BI fell in a huge loss to Glenelg 13-6! |
Big game tonight, SJC vs Gonzaga. Who wins this controls the number one seed in the WCAC. |
tons of big games today....
GZ wins by a good margin over SJC today. I do think last year was a fluke. Gonzaga proved themselves this week with a win against Landon and has played a very tough non league schedule. GP over Saint Stephens by a couple Landon over EHS in a close contest Bullis destroys STA |
STA has now beaten both Landon and SSSAS. Why then would you expect Bullis to "destroy" them? |
So do any of your kids who play lacrosse at private schools get scholarships for doing so? Or was that just why they got admitted, and you still have to pay full tuition? |
Most reputable privates discussed on this thread don't give athletic scholarships but a few do. Thats not why kids play lax though. Most play because its a great sport and they love it. OTOH it does help with college admission to some of the best schools in the country. But, its not about money (scholarships), its about a "weight on the admissions scale." This is been discussed a great deal at different times on DCUM. Every single Ivy League and top university on the country has at least one girl or boy from the DC metro area playing on or committed to play on its lacrosse team. |
I get the admissions to college part. I was wondering about admissions to the private high schools part (which are also highly competitive). And how do the coaches even notice a kid in 8th grade, anyway? |
They can get noticed on a top club team by club team coaches and be recruited to the privates they coach at during the school year.
Typically they are looking ahead at seniors who are leaving and what positions they need to fill if there are not strong underclassmen coming up/ready. We've seen recruiting for 9th and sometimes 10th grade, but it is the coaches who do the approaching. It sounds like some schools may even recruit juniors but that's less likely. |
Oh sorry - yes there is "recruiting" for the privates for some sports. For lacrosse its common and usually kids who are known because of their performance on club teams. Most of the high school lacrosse coaches - both girls and boys - have connections to the various clubs and are very aware of who the best prospects are. In the case of my kid - I know school coaches called the club coach and asked. Some school coaches also coach club and have seen these kids play, they may even play fo them. Its a pipeline. |
Bullis will give money to entice athletes even to families who don't need it. |
So much for Sta's run this season. That great defense of theirs got smoked by Bullis. |
Bullis was offering families athletic scholarships for girls lacrosse this year - unsolicited and families who do not need the money. |
Trash talking STA sure is quiet now that Bullis blasted them back to reality. |
