House of the Dragon - Game of Thrones spinoff (SPOILERS)

I have a question about this last episode. As Rhaenys is escaping the castle, they show a fire in one wing of it. Was that the room she'd been locked in? As in, they intended to burn her to death?

I thought it was the brothel/house of the "white worm" or whoever that lady was who had kept Aegon hostage for that short period of time. So confusing.

Yeah, kinda weird it didn’t happen. Perhaps the dragon’s ability to spew fire is affected if it’s been chained in the basement for a prolonged period.

Also she still believes that Rhaenyra secretly had her son killed so she could marry Daemon. Perhaps that player into her decision.

She's not a monster or kinslayer. I also think she held back out of respect/love for Viserys as those are his children. Maybe also to show them, Allicent specifically, that violence is a choice.

I do think she could have burnt those f*ckers Otto and Ser. Criston to a crisp and few would have minded.

I just don't get the point of what she did then. Why bust up the whole place, likely killing a whole bunch of people in the process, just to turn and fly away?
I know it was some sort of signal that there would be dissent, but seems unnecessarily destructive. She should have killed at least somebody to make it worth it....

My read was that she originally intended to but at the last minute couldn't go through with it.

Ok I am traumatized by the scene with Larys and the barefoot Queen. Was it implied that she knew about his fetish, and took her shoes off on purpose to get him to act on her behalf?
Help me process this!

She left when it was dark out and reappeared when it was daylight. You'd think she traveled really far but then the Queen and her posse appear like it wasn't far at all.

This show is so corny, so predictable, and a total ripoff of GoT. It is the same show - fighting for the throne.

I think it's implied that this is an unspoken and agreed upon arrangement between the two of them, yes. It was super gross but paired well with Rhaenys's comment about how Allicent toils "in service to men"

Or was this some effort towards fulfillment of Larys' promise to Allicent in the gross foot scene--getting rid of spies like Allicent's lady-in-waiting? Wasn't she locked up at some point towards the beginning of the episode?

They clearly have an arrangement.

I think it’s this. They were burning all the servants since they don’t know who the mole was, per Larys. And yes Alicent clearly knew about the foot fettish and had participated before. Obviously she’s disgusted, but thinks she needs Larys.

She should have. Would have saved a great deal of future bloodshed.

It’s the white worm’s balcony. Same one as the end of previous episode. Larys said he would take out the “queen bee”, disrupting the web Otto benefits from giving her the upper hand. They locked up those servants who knew about the kings death so word would not get out before they finished plotting the ursurp.

Uh, how can it be a "rip off" of GoT. It's literally part of the same fantasy world and based on a book written by the same person who wrote the books GoT was based on. They aren't "ripping off" GoT. It's part of the same story and has some producers in common (though new showrunners/writers, for which I'm very grateful actually) and they also appear to be using many of the same sets, costumers, etc. It makes sense that it explores many of the same central themes and and has some of the same drivers of conflict, like the fight for power.

I actually have not found the show predictable. One major improvement over GoT is that the show is that they've hired more female writers and directors (GoT had none) and that has greatly improved the way issues like rape or the interior lives of female characters are handled, IMO. The GRRM books from the GoT series actually had a lot of interiority of the female characters (as it is told from a rotating POV) and explored the politics of gender in this world with more nuance and sensitivity (and definitely didn't portray rape as titillating, as the show did). It's great to see that incorporated more in this story, which is based on a much dryer text (written as a history of the Targaryen civil war, not from the POV of the people it portrays).

Anyway, I do agree it's corny at times. But many things I love are.

I found this whole episode to be confusing. I didn't remember the Erryck twins - why would they tell Aegon his grandfather would meet him outside the city wall? To lure him to his grandfather?

Literally no idea why that building was burning at the end.

Could use a TINY bit more exposition with Helena? Is she straight up nuts or what?

No Rhaenyra in this episode - total disappointment.

I think they should have had Rhaenys burn Aegon, et al and let Aemond survive and he can battle it out. In the after the episode segment they had the showrunners say that Rhaenys didn't want to kill another mother's son and that's why she didn't burn Aegon. But there's not way Alicent wouldn't have died too, so twofer. Don't care what was in the books.

I'm a little surprised Alicent is such a neophyte at this stage. Say what you will about Cersei Lannister but she surrounded herself with people that would go to bat for her. No one would have planned a usurpation under her nose.

Agree, her kids are 20+ years old and she has a house full of babysitters, she has made NO friends except the 2 men?
