Why does that make it insurmountable? Take the eminent domain cases to court along with the nature reserves and everyone else who has an issue with it. It may take years but so what? Let it play out. |
Explain why Trump turned down $25 billion for the wall when it was offered, if this was so important to him. We all know he's just grandstanding. |
The liberals here totally understand this. So do Nancy and Chuck. They get it. They have voted for barriers in the past (and they weren't "immoral" then). It's just "different" now. Trump is president. It's really as simple as that. |
I wasnt the poster to dragged Obama's fence into this. And e-verify should be mandatory along with whatever penalties for employers (including Trump before you say it). |
I don't remember all the back and forth from back then, but I think it had to do with not wanting to give amnesty to DACA receipients. He should have gotten more than $25B. He should have gotten changes to the family immigration laws as well if he was going to make that trade. There is no way it is fair for the DACA receipients to receive citizenship and then turn around and be able to sponsor their parents (the original law breakers). |
Trump had 25 billion for a wall and turned it down. Now he is saying that federal workers, many of whom are working without pay, are "striking." When is he going to be removed for being mentally incompetent? I'm starting to wonder if he is doing this on purpose to get out of going to prison for crimes already committed before becoming president. |
All Trump had to do was get the votes, in the Republican majority House and Senate before Christmas, to pass the same bill with billions for the wall without the DACA compromise. The Congress was controlled by Republicans, folks, this should have been possible.
But no, he turned down the compromise and did nothing but tweet until the republican Congress left town for the holidays. It was only a few weeks ago. Now he's saying Democrats were responsible? When they just took over, only the House, January 3? Trump could have had his wall. But he chose to waste time and blame others. And then act like he doesn't have any sense at all. |
Did you look at the vote tallys? 95% of GOP voted for it. 5% voted against it. Not enough to pass without democratic support. |
Changes to family immigration after his inlaws were the beneficiaries of chain immigration? ![]() |
Yes. Just like we have changed driving laws even after many of us were the beneficiaries of earlier driving ages. We have drinking ages even after many of us were the beneficiaries of earlier drinking ages. We have made it more difficult to drive with a child in the car. We have made it more difficult to care for young children - I know I wasn't the only latch key kid in my first grade class. Current parents in Maryland can't do that. If you want us not to change laws after people have benefited from them, we have a whole lot of laws we need to reverse. |
So, 5% of republicans voted against? How about we start THERE with the blame |
And Trump could have tried to compromise to get that 5% of republicans to vote for the wall OR sign into law the compromise that was sent to him before Christmas. It wasn't rocket science, either Trump had the votes or did not have the votes. If he worked to get the votes, then he could have had his way. Instead, nothing happened and the republicans all left for the holiday. |
Well, most American leaders figure out how to "give something to the other side" to forge compromise or get the needed votes. Trump failed to do that. He only needed a handful of Senators to support it and he failed. |
Just have Mexico pay for the wall. Problem solved |
Sorry, pal. Other than your demented POTUS no one supports this. |
