If it takes that long...DS did get in, but had good supporting materials. Do you really have to turn in all those supporting tests? Ours was just one page with 3-4 results. How I hated doing that to my DS!! Loved the AAP program though.

My kids loved it at GMU. They asked to go back again because it was fun. I don;t believe your report was only 1 page (if it was from GMU). Ours was about 5 pages, I think. They put more than just the scores.

A rejection with a Full Scale IQ of 149 would be unprecedented. Appeal, with confidence. That WISC will definitely overcome just about any GBRS.

We also used GMU and my child enjoyed the experience- thought it was a chance to play some fun games. And yes, our report was a few pages long, with a section of narrative about the demeanor of the child during the test.

The grad students tend to be in their mid to late twenties and enthusiastic about working with children. If anything, my child felt more comfortable with the grad student because she was young and less intimidating than an older person might be.

Is it possible to get a higher FISQ than the average of the sub scores? I'm just wondering how they grade this thing.

How many times are we allow to take the WISC-IV test from Psychologists?

should DC takes GMU and Psy. sametime?

I believe you are only allowed to take the test once a year regardless of who administers.

If either found out about the other, the test would end. It is a violation of the professional ethics. If the county found out, they would not count the wisc in the appeals.

The WISC can be taken once a year. So, theoretically, you could schedule a WISC for appeal and then plan for it again next May for a referral in 3rd grade, again in May 2015 in 4th grade, etc., all the way until May 2018 in 7th grade.

I hope someone would not be that desperate to "get a kid into AAP" however.

+1

Also, an IQ is an IQ ... it's not like it's going to change substantially with practice... nor should it. Has anyone here ever found vast differences retaking a WISC?

We saw a vast difference in WISC FSIQ scores in a "before and after" scenario for my DS with ADHD. The first time he did the WISC (at age 6 as part of an evaluation for ADHD and anxiety) he did okay but his working memory and processing speed were in the average range. Two years later we were working with a psychiatrist to add medication (after two years of play and talk therapy) and DS had much higher working memory and processing speed scores. The verbal and perceptual reasoning scores were roughly the same, though.

Niether of my children have retaken it. The GMU student told me that it can vary by less than 10 points generally. Interestingly, she also told me that there are portions that can be prepped and portions that cannot. My child happened to score well on the parts that cannot be prepped (working memory). I did not ask that. She said it spontaneously. It made me assume that other parents must ask that question. We did not prep, not do we plan a retake.

I just looked up the scores:

Before therapy/meds:
Verbal Comprehension 152
Perceptual Reasoning 131
Working Memory 107
Processing Speed 100

After therapy/starting meds (2 years later):
Verbal Comprehension 148
Perceptual Reasoning 135
Working Memory 126
Processing Speed 123

Both WISCs were done privately (first at Children's Medical HALP clinic, second with Diana Dahlgren).
