The dishonesty and arrogance of local Democrats like Surovell and Pekarsky has changed my mind about voting yes on the redistricting amendment. I’ll reconsider if Spanberger vetoes the bill but that now seems unlikely.

Yes. Although if Democrats retain control of the Governor’s office, they are likely to extend the “temporary casino” indefinitely. Once a casino comes to Tysons and drives other corporate customers away, it will be there for good.

According to the new bill, the revenue from the casino must be used for FCPS. I expect funding from the state for FCPS to be further reduced when that sweet, sweet tax money comes rolling in. It won't be a net gain for Fairfax County, but down state will have new funding.

They say this but is it true? The lottery goes into the general fund which then goes to schools and many other things. Is this the same kind of smoke and mirrors?

All gaming tax revenue generated by the temporary facility would go to Fairfax County Public Schools under the substitute bill presented by Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell (D-34), who has led the push to add Fairfax County to Virginia’s list of localities eligible to host a casino.

If a permanent casino is approved by voters, the resulting tax revenue would be split evenly between the state and local governments, but Fairfax County would be required to use its share to fund K-12 public schools.

So the casino revenue will no doubt be in lieu of additional support from down state.

This will happen. Surovell wants people in Fairfax to support this bill and they will now that school funding is tied to it. Foolishly, they won’t realize the state will now be incentivized to give less to FCPS. Fairfax will be the real loser with this casino. It will cost so much in more resources needed that our taxes will go up just to support the casino for the benefit of other counties in Virginia. Of course Spanberger wants this.

The board of supervisors still dreams that it can get more money from the state. Wait until one of the bright sparks gets the idea that cooperation *might* get more funding.

This is one change

The bill the Senate adopted on Friday night reinstalled the provision designating Tysons as the location of the proposed casino. That provision remains in the version of the bill heading to the governor's desk.
