Tysons Corner Casino -- Foregone Conclusion Now?

Anonymous
What a corrupt twist of events! Surovell really hates Fairfax. What is a “temporary” casino? A shack? He not only worked his specific tysons site back in but got rid of any local role. Upending Virginia’s clear policy of local land use authority. It’s truly an unbelievable turn of events.

The overwhelming percentage of people there are not privileged white men spending $50 a bet at the craps and blackjack tables. That Democrats would talk out of one side of their mouths about equity and then turn around and vote for a casino is the height of hypocrisy and corruption.

Well I mean Virginia Democrats are the epitome of hypocrisy if not being straight dumb and asinine

She could refuse to sign the bill. She won't though.

Nope. Many Virginia democrats have been staunchly opposed to this. Blame Surovell and Marsden. Pekarsky and Cohen.

+1 and everyone fell for it. Look at this and the data centers, the crime, you can't make this up. All out in the open now. Live with it you voted for it.

oh and forgot the taxes! "We will make VA affordable for all!"

We care about the environment "here are a crap ton of data centers." It won't raise your power bill. Everyone's freaking out about their dominion bill. Fools.

This is a really dumb take. Yes, Spanberger could veto this bill. But why should she - if it is duly passed by the General Assembly? Save the vetoes for important things that have no other recourse. In this case, there are some outs. The Board of Supervisors can not hold the referendum. The referendum will fail if it happens.

I am 100% against the casino proposal but this isn’t the Governor’s fault or responsibility. Hopefully Surovell’s constituents will vote him out next time. He seems corrupt and in the pocket of this one developer and seems to hate the rest of Fairfax County. Commercial real estate revenues slightly improved this year - Fairfax is still strong in attracting companies, especially tech companies. We don’t need a tool designed for struggling areas who request casino authority. I believe nearly all Fairfax reps voted against the casino bill but Surovell, a few others in Fairfax, and the rest of the state forced it upon us. This is what we get for dumping all of our legislators with seniority a few years ago and ending up with people like Stella Pekarsky.

I’m sorry, does she have a limit on the number of vetoes she can use? This is something important. The people of NoVA don’t want this casino and it’s on its way to being rammed down our throats. NoVA helped get her elected. She should support us on the issues that matter to us.

She supported this during the election. Why would she stop it?

Anonymous wrote:So, I’m confused now. Does this mean that if the governor signs the bill it doesn’t have to go to a referendum and will be placed in Tyson’s as a “temporary” casino and then the residents can vote for it to stay or go? How easy is it to shut it down once it’s there?

Yes. Although if Democrats retain control of the Governor’s office, they are likely to extend the “temporary casino” indefinitely. Once a casino comes to Tysons and drives other corporate customers away, it will be there for good.

Yep. Just like the temporary toll on 267 until it paid for itself. Goal reached and it remained in place. There is no going back once it is in. This is some real BS politcal crap by our beloved, decent, people-loving, community-minded party. Better than the other team, but still bad ans corrupt.

According to the new bill, the revenue from the casino must be used for FCPS. I expect funding from the state for FCPS to be further reduced when that sweet, sweet tax money comes rolling in. It won't be a net gain for Fairfax County, but down state will have new funding.

Virginia State Senator Dave Marsden (D-Fairfax) is strongly in favor of the proposal to build a casino in Tysons, acting as the primary proponent behind the legislation since 2023.

The temporary casino seems like a done deal that will be renewed continuously. Is this what they’ll put in the Saks space at Galleria, or somewhere in Tysons Corner Center until they build something even worse? We are really F’d. I’m so angry that we aren’t even getting to try to vote it down.

Voting isn't democratic. The wrong people vote the wrong way.
