You are not telling a family to move on. You are telling an entire race that is subject to systemic racism to move on. If you would like to continue being racist then please move on from this thread, Go ahead, move along now. |
It’s like the ugliest women who bash beauty contests. They move on and convince themselves they are above it all. Try telling white swimming Olympic athletes they need to make a room for those from the inner cities with fewer opportunities. Yeah, move on... |
because it's really far for Americans |
Ha ha Asian at Oxbridge would most likely come from former English colonies like Blacks which come from Africa. |
Different poster here. That said, my own kid’s at an ivy where she didn’t have to hide her identity. Didn’t bother with H because of its racist reputation. What are Asians to do? I really do think Asians with H stats can do well at other schools, particularly at SLACs where being Asian is valued. |
The systemic racism is not limited to Harvard or Ivies only. Many state schools also do this. And this isn't about whether or not they can do well at other schools. That is completely devoid of the point. |
| Please stop feeding this toxic poster. She will never stop with her rant. She is a close minded zealot, and not worth anyone’s time |
I meant Asian students will do well in the admission cycle. My D applied to 3 ivies and 7 SLACs. Her outcomes were more or less in line with her stats although she was rejected more than accepted. In the end, it didn’t matter cuz she could attend only one. |
| The fact that Asians are so widely and oppressive discriminated against means that I will 100000000% go out of my way to hire an Asian CFA or pick an Asian doctor, because that means they must be at least 1 or 2 standard deviations better than the rest just to get accepted into school. I'd only want the best for finance and health. Asians only it is. |
Thank you for saying this. |
You are assuming that Asian American students are one dimensional candidates with only high test scores and good grades to recommend themselves to an elite university. What the Harvard case showed is that even if they also had interesting Extracurricular activities demonstrating leadership and even if they impressed their interviewer with their engaging personality they were given low scores on non academic criteria The admission committees were prejudiced plain and simple. That is wrong and we should not accept this in 2020 And yes at a really elite school you would expect a really high level of college readiness and SAT scores and GPAs are the simplest way to determine this. |
Nah, it’s not that bad. I’ve been through the process. I am now on the other side. I do appreciate and value URM students on campus. And you can’t just have a token few like at Oxford or Cambridge. There has to be a critical mass for URM students’ well being. It’s also important for my D to be exposed to people of different background, life experience, and value. I learned long time ago hatred also hurt those who hate. |
You can point out discrimination and prejudice without hating or demeaning. My ire is directed towards Admission committees and people who stereotype children and young adults. We should not put up with that - ever. It doesn’t matter who it is directed against. Prejudice is just plain wrong |
Just be strategic about colleges your student is applying to and you can have good results. Think outside the box. Go easy on IVs and go heavy on SLACs. One thing I did not know about was Oxford and Cambridge. They are heavy on merit. If your student has H stats, those would be good options. |
Yes, we already tell our 16-17 year old kids that have have to learn how to be strategic about the systemic racism lodged against them. The point is it is wrong. Full stop. The racism they face is wrong. |
