If you’ve been reading this thread, you’d know affirmative action is designed to benefit Harvard and not American born blacks. They use affirmative action to recruit full-pay African and Caribbean students while throwing a bone 🦴 or two to American blacks. All The studies I ever read on affirmative action shows serious deleterious consequences of affirmative action. Read writers like Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams... In fact try to read Justice Thomas, as he may have a say once the case reaches the SCOTUS.

If you can’t find the basis of Harvard’s support for affirmative action after several days, I feel sorry for you. Why do you think H athletic recruits are whites, assuming your claim is true? Harvard is not going to the inner cities to recruit low income athletes. They rather recruit full-pay rich white kids. Try to read between the lines.

I have no skin in the game. My kid’s at an ivy - not Harvard. No ivy parent will bash other students, no matter the background. Diversity is highly prized. And that diversity includes African and Caribbean students.

Black admits had the lowest stats of any racial group and Asians had the highest.....as reported by the Crimson. Athletes of all color had lower stats but if I recall correctly they didn’t average out as low as the black cohort: Eh, Harvard can do whatever it likes to socially engineer what it considers the perfect racial mash-up of a class but it doesn’t make it any less equitable and frankly seems like a tremendous waste of time and energy.

The problem isn’t that Harvard discriminates against Asian American students, the problem is that many of the top schools hold Asian American candidates to a higher academic standard while their admission committees simultaneously view these kids as uninteresting or lacking personality. This negative stereotyping seems to permeate institutions of higher learning making it more difficult for Asian American students (especially if female) to find mentors etc.
I am not sure why so many posters are focusing on African American students when the problem lies within the college administration and faculty.

It was researched by ivy black scholars who obviously had problems with people they consider “backwards” compared to American blacks. Once again, think outside the box. You have to look for schools that value Asians. Oxford and Cambridge do not have affirmative action. Many SLACs value Asian students. If you keep flocking to schools where all other Asians are applying, you are limiting yourself. That’s not to say you should avoid ivies. Cast a wide net.
