Political Discussion
I'm a woman, glad to know I'm contemptuous of my own gender. Nothing wrong with pointing out the abject silence on this matter when I was subjected to frivolous complaint articles like "manspreading" the past months. When something truly horrific like this happens that really violates women rights there is no protest. I am glad at least the womens rights groups in Germany had the bravado to protest. By calling rude names you're part of the problem of shutting down conversation when womens rights are being violated. |
| Is there ANY feminist commentary on this rape/assult culture of Muslim men on European women? |
Exactly. Thank you. |
There doesn't need to be feminist commentary, because everyone is talking about and condemning it, mainstream media, men, women. Feminists discuss subjects that are not already in the mainstream, bringing them to light. There doesn't need to be light brought to these New Years Eve assaults. |
+1. I'm with you. I'm a woman and a feminist who has made a living fighting for women's rights. But I guess I didn't realize I'm really just part of the problem. Good to know. |
Thank you! You speak for many of us. |
That's right. We as feminists need not be concerned with these particular victims of sexual assault.

NPR isn't condemning the all out welcome mat for these folks who have been conditioned from early childhood, that women are property, not equal human beings. Why is that? |
That is utter bs. As a woman..when feminist articles started talking about how men sat on subways...and how selfish that was. Manspreading does not impede my day to day life and my liberty to do as I please. When they started gapping on and on about rape culture in colleges, I remembered how I used alcohol in college to fuel my courage and I was just as eager to explore my sexuality with that frat guy as he was with me. You know what impedes my rights? The possibility of being assaulted in public places and being told to cover up and be at "arms length" because there are groups of men from another culture that do not respect me and the western way of life. That actually hinders my life and my liberty. That's a womans right issue that we should be talking about because our freedom is at stake. |
Because NPR has its own agenda whether it's Trump, refugees, racial violence, middle east politics, etc. All of the individual media outlets have their own agendas. Which is why we need to read or even skim multiple sources. When someone blindly follows CNN, NPR, or Fox, it tells me they are missing part of the story. |
Very well said. |

Spent time in Egypt many years ago and I remember that after a certain hour say 9/10pm the streets themselves would fill wall to wall with men. Men were everywhere just hanging out on/in street corners, cafes etc. Women themselves were strangely absent. I am talking about a complete absence of women on the street.
I remember asking some Egyptian male friends about the absence of women on the streets and they commented that if you did see an Egyptian woman out she was probably a prostitute. To prove his point, one of the men pointed to a well dressed woman who happened to be entering a hotel un-escorted, and referenced that she must be a prostitute. Uhmm was all I could think. This was Cairo which at least at that point in time, as long as you dressed modestly (arms and legs covered in loose fabric) was a fairly open place. The idea that at night anyway, a women had her place, and that place wasn't out on the street was a new one for me. It did get worse though the farther South we went. Aswan which was much more conservative. My mother (70yr old) and I thought it would be nice to take a walk after dinner (this was early evening). We received so many hostile stares that we just turned around and went back to our rooms. I had never experienced that before. I am aware that you shouldn't venture into unsafe areas while traveling but what I wasn't prepared for that unsafe meant unsafe for a woman. Freedom of movement is something I had always just assumed was not gender specific. I think much of Western Europe is going to have it's hands full for some time. This is not just a clash of superficial cultural identities it is a clash of fundamental beliefs and attitudes that in many cases don't have room for one another. |
I am absolutely disgusted by this behavior by men. I can't imagine living around men with such a disdain for women. |
Yes, you are part of the problem, and you seem to have zero problem continuing the conversation. Women's rights - big ones, like the sexual assaults in Germany, and small ones, the little daily ones that chip away at our mental energies happen every day. And conservatives, including you based on how you sound, delight in making sure women occupy their "proper," non-feminist place. I posted pages back: who the fuck cares who did it. Find and punish the criminals appropriately. The "who" is a huge Republican red herring. The "why" is important. Why do men feel, the world over, increasingly emboldened to commit heinous acts? To record them and share the video? Why do several jurisdictions still charge women for their own rape kits? Why is the mere suggestion that sexism is a contributing factor in unequal pay met with spittle and incoherency from Republican talking heads? Why are reproductive rights constantly under assault? Why? |

...and radical Muslims wonder why they are such a despised group all around the world.
(((...sigh...)). |
