My heart aches for her. If you follow her at all, you know she's still very much actively grieving the loss of her dad. Mentally, she's in a really rough place. |

It was Kamila Valieva! https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1119043/valieva-legal-problem-beijing-2022 |
This is brilliant. Please write and pitch this to the IOC. |
She should have just sat out -pulled herself out - Like Simone Biles. It made Simone a freaking NATIONAL HERO for NOT competing. That got her more sponsorships and publicity than any color medal in the world. Well played Simone! Why is no one learning from her? |
Oh wow. That is huge if true. |
|
If it doesn't enhance performance, why is it banned?
I will be super angry is this is the work of an incompetent doctor who doesn't read the rule and gave her like an antihystamine or something. Remember Elena Berezhnaya, who was dq'd over an OTC cold medication she stupidly took to stop her runny nose. Aaarghhhh! |
|
there was that poor romanian gymnast who lost her gold over a cold medication given by a team doctor
You would think they would be more careful about banned substances, though. They said recreational in the article so sounds like she may have been partying |
One of the rumors floating around is that it is marijuana. Just a rumor. It seems like it was from a test before the Olympics. All the medalists at the European Championships (3.5 weeks ago in Estonia) got tested and presumably were clear because the skaters the ROC had in each if the 4 disciplines in the team event won gold at Euros and that hasn’t been stripped and no mention before now. Jessica Calalang, the US silver medalist in pairs kept testing positive for banned substance for months. Turned out it was something in a mascara or lash growth serum. So maybe it’s something more like that? If it is Kamila and it is something more serious that could have major ramifications for the women’s event since her coach, Eteri Tutberidze, coaches the other 2 Russian girls expected to sweep the podium. |
Wow. That would be really unfortunate if she is unable to compete.

This. I saw teen Olympians. They are at Princeton, Stanford. Right. Rich people who have time to train and money to hire coaches. And China looks pitiful getting its athletes from elsewhere. I thought they were supposed to be powerful. They are borrowing athletes from Canada and the US. I guess they don’t think the west is evil when they benefit from it. |
No matter one’s race or ethnicity, a person can more easily succeed with parents willing to give it all up for the kid’s success. Taylor Swift, etc. |
I'm guessing the athletes get generous scholarships to go to these type tiered schools given they're hard core and arguably the best of the best in that sport. |
I think Zhu Yi’s dad is a spy. He returned to Chine to work in artificial intelligence. I don’t like Gu. Just answer the question about your nationality. I can’t believe women are being told they can’t ski due to their body suits but Gu can ski for China even when she might not be Chinese. |
if she took a banned substance - rules are rules. Especially recreational drugs - that was her choice. If it turns out to be something as stupid as a cold medication or something in her makeup, then I think THAT would be unfortunate. |
