At least one of the women dq’d pointed out that her uniform had been much more form fitting before she had been underfed in quarantine.

Such a sh!t show.

Returning to add that those dq’d included the anticipated medalists in the event.

I actually agree with China/Olympics ruling body on this one. Those women were trying to cheat by essentially wearing sugar glider costumers. Have you ever seen one? They fly through the air by essentially using their excess skin as built-in hanggliders.

The higher and longer they are in the air, the farther they go, the more points they get.

Except they already performed jumps prior and it wasn't a problem. Way to try to deflect.

Its still cheating. Maybe they were warned about the costumes and refused to change last minute as they were custom-designed for the Olympics and all their back-ups would have the same issue anyway. I view it the same as track athletes disqualified for doping. Don't cheat.

Some place that actually appreciates the winter sports and would provide a lovely scenery and backdrop to the games, and would treat the athletes with respect? I remember as a kid watching Lillehammer and the beautiful villages they put together for those games. Canada did a beautiful job several years ago.
What do we get with China? A giant ski jump with huge nuclear smokestacks and cooling towers in the background.
Everything surrounding the ski slopes is brown and bare and ugly. There's no snow. No beautiful lakes. No wintery scenery. just awful. I feel bad for these athletes

Not saying I support China hosing, nut on the plus side I am happy to see that they were able to reuse many of the facilities that were constructed for the 2008 summer Olympics. I think it is a shame that these facilities are often constructed just for the games and don't get used again.

Yes I think fewer countries are willing to bid on the games because the cost of building up the infrastructure means that countries lose money on hosting. Definitely a good argument towards having a few rotating permanent location so that you can actually reuse the buildings

How many of these countries are able to maintain or have a use for all the facilities they build after the games are done? Look at Brazil; the people are living in poverty yet the govt had enough to build these facilities that were never used after the games and now sit to waste away. What's the point?

Why do you care what another nation does? There is nothing you can do to stop other countries from hosting.
I assume you are STRONGLY against the upcoming Summer Olympiad in LA?

NP here. LA is a great choice for hosting since the infrastructure is there.

Wow, what a surprise. A Russian found to be doping, yet again. How does anyone watch this trash Olympics?

DP, but why? LA is exactly the kind of city that should host. They already have most of the infrastructure.

DP and yeah, I think LA would be a good host in a small group of rotating host cities for the summer Olympics. I’m not sure Greece would want to host every four years unless the IOC ponied up most of the money.

That is all.

Are her Olympics over?

She has three (I think) more events.

These were her best events, skies out both times.

Monumental disappointment.

Sorry your life is so sad that you feel the need to say such cruel things about an athlete.

Ok so she messed up. I would exactly say she sucks. She is still a very accomplished skier with an incredible amount of wins.

She had 2 bad races and is probably inside her won head right now. These bad races still don't erase her other accomplishment.

I am hoping she can come back and do well in her next 3 events, but even is she doesn't she is still an amazing athlete.

The Guardian says it was not performance enhancing.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/feb/09/legal-issue-delays-beijing-medal-ceremony-for-russian-figure-skating-winter-olympics

The Winter Olympics medal ceremony for the figure skating team event was cancelled because of a Russian skater testing positive for a substance that was not performance enhancing, multiple sources have told the Guardian.

On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee cancelled the ceremony citing legal obstacles, which had to be settled with the International Skating Union.

The Inside the Games website then suggested it was related to an alleged positive doping result among the Russian skaters, who won gold, something the Guardian has confirmed, along with the additional detail that the substance is not a drug that would aid performance. There is also growing speculation that the continuing legal wrangle is over whether the substance was taken in or out of competition.

Twitter say it was weed, which is still a banned substance.
