Am I wrong?

If your thyroid was really messed up, you could get that fat even without eating like that. But then you should go to an endocrinologist and get it taken care of.

If her thyroid was so messed up that it caused her to weigh as much as she does she would have a lot of other medical issues as well so of which could make it hard to function. Most obesity is caused by one thing... over eating.

has anyone else noticed how terrible her skin is too? Whenever they do a close up shot of her face I am shocked her skin looks so bad, even with all the makeup.

Taking in that many calories is not good for your skin, and it shows. Few morbidly obese people have great skin. I'm puzzled as to why she doesn't want the lap band surgery. I would be there in a heart beat if I got to that weight and couldn't lose (for whatever reason). The aesthetics would bother me but the array of looming health issues would bother me even more.

Lapbands have not proven to be really effective long-term with people of Chrissy's size. There are other surgical procedures that are much effective, but they are also more invasive and carry more risk.

And, if you've ever seen "My 600 lb Life, you know that the surgery is no panacea. If she couldn't start to lose the weight without surgery, it's unlikely or uncertain if she'd be able to keep the weight off even with the surgery. The disordered eating that creates such obesity is not about the food.

Maybe I grew up in a bubble, but it's hard to believe that in the mid 1990s in an east coast city, someone would have such an obvious reaction to a white girl dating a black boy. Not liking it or being surprised, sure, but the people I knew would have been better at keeping that to themselves.

You definitely grew up in a bubble.

This happening in mid-1990s in Pittsburgh is not at all surprising. I was actually shocked until this point that there didn't seem to be any tension about Randall and Allison dating from the beginning.

I'm actually irked that he is running. Clearly he hasn't thought it through, which they are showing is a pattern. He thinks of the immediate and not the long term. The district is more than just the couple blocks in his father's neighborhood. Campaigning takes money. Granted he made a good living before he quit and so did Beth, but he now has another child living in his house who is troubled, he knows his wife no longer has a job and he is forging ahead to help a community that is c. 2 hours from home. Beth is a more patient woman than I am because I'd have given him one of those Cher in Moonstruck slaps long ago.

Could he be bi-polar?

Is it too naive to think that is the path TIU is going? The residents resent him and he does not understand what they actually need. Just like being adopted is not enough to completely understand Deja, being black is not enough to understand the community. And his rally speech, which usually works, did not work and alienated people. It will cause him to be more reflective and figure out how to really help, which maybe is he works for Sol Brown or becomes a special assistant to the mayor (like he or Beth get a new job) and then he can do the work and influence but not in the same spotlighty / hero way.

I like him working for someone else! That would be a very smart move, but randall is an all or nothing/his way or no way kind of man. Not in a bad way because he means well, that is just his way. I doubt he'd last long working for someone else once he disagrees with them!

Possibly. His impulsivity has been out of control.

It’s not just the disordered eating, it’s the entire metabolic and hormonal changes that come along with it when the body gets that big. Chrissy could eat 2,000 cals a day for the rest of her life and her body will fight like hell to hang on to the weight and then pack it back on. If she has a slip up (which is likely because she will feel hunger in a way you can’t imagine), she’ll gain it back faster. I’ve been overweight bordering on obese most of my life and it is a constant struggle just to not to be enormous, let alone be slim. And I don’t have PCOS or an untreated metobolic disorder.

At any rate, I’m glad the show is brave enough to show a fat woman living her life and not spending every second eating or thinking about her diet. That’s just not how many we’ll adjusts fat people live.

I was heartbroken watching Toby trying to cope with his depression, as I've been there before. It looks like Beth might be suffering from depression now as well.

I think the Vietnamese woman that Jack was involved with dies. Or maybe she does have his baby, but he was never aware of it.

I am supremely sick of Randall always trying to save the day. If the residents of that town aren't interested in improving their lives, then he needs to move on and stop trying to insert himself. Get a job.

I love Kevin. He always, always makes me laugh. Actually so does Randall, when he's not being super earnest and in do-gooder mode. Beth too - very funny.

Roll your eyes all you want, but of course her weight is a distraction. You may wish it wasn't, but that doesn't make it so.

+1
That was astounding!

do you think they used a younger double and just put her voice into the scene? It was pretty short, and fuzzy filming.

I don't know... it certainly looked exactly like her. I think they just used makeup and hair to make her appear (much) more youthful.

Last night's episode was completely unbelievable. How will Beth and Randall support their family with zero income and additional election expenses?

I continue to watch this show because I love the flashback scenes with the young Pearson kids. The grown up Pearson kids are starting to bug me though.

I think that Randall got a large payout when he left his partnership. It won't last forever but I bet it would cover 2-3 years.

I’m assuming Randall was making really big bucks for almost a decade, and Beth probably had some years at the start but the. Did okay. Given Randall’s personality, I could imagine him being extremely smart, frugal and cautious with his money. He probably socked away a ton. With Jack dead and his mother not much of an earner, he probably qualified for a full ride to college, and there would have been some life insurance money that maybe provided a nest egg first house down payment.
