The “football player?” Show some respect - it was the great Franco Harris. I do wonder if his backstory intersects with the Pearson’s though.

Poor Kate too.

Lol, I bet most of us watching have no idea that is based off a real perso , even when you say the name I have no clue who it is and I live in Pittsburgh

You live in Pittsburgh and don’t know Franco Harris? Did you recently move there? Do you pay no attention to Pittsburgh history/pop culture events?

Simmer down. Can you conceive of a world where people don't give a shit whatsoever about professional sports? It's the world I live in, and my life is quite full.

Terry Bradshaw. Ring a bell?

When I looked on nbc.com prior to yesterday, it said that "This Is Us" was a 2 hour event.

I set my DVR to record -- but only one hour recorded. What was the other hour?

It's just a great shout out to the Pittsburgh football team that runs through so such of the Pearson's history (triplets conception, birth, Jack's death all had an underlying football connection). Immaculate reception is a metaphor as pp above described. I love being in on the theme. To the Pittsburgh pp who said she never heard of Franco Harris: delete your account.

This. Both men had the landmark event of their lives that night.

I am pretty sure Randall called Toby to ask if he was coming down and Toby looked like he was in a hotel.

consipracy theory it's Kate's funeral

But didn't Toby say something like "she doesn't want to see me"? Who would he be talking about?

I can conceive of such a world, but that world is definitely not Pittsburgh.

And if it is Pittsburgh, you must know who Franco Harris is.

I meant no disrespect. I don't follow football and I've never been to Pittsburgh. Calm down.

I was always convinced that Deja killed Beth and they were going to see her in jail...

I just need to get this off my chest - there would have been no d*mn carnival in Pittsburgh during the month of December! Timeline people!

But good episode other than that.

How do we know it was December? The weather and their clothing weren’t typical winter stuff.

Because the Immaculate Reception football game that was underlying the entire show was on Dec 23. 1972.

I might have mentioned this before - the show is so pro adoption, I can’t imagine they would have Deja kill Beth.

I thought it might have something to do with Deja doing something to the younger sister.

The Beth theory is a good one too!

In fact, the high temp in Pittsburgh on Dec 23, 1973, was about 33 degrees. The carnival story line is disappointing. I expect more from TIU writers.

I thought this too but then Toby states "she doesn't want to see me" and Randall tells him that she does.

So probably not Kate's funeral.
