They did a whole segment on her dad dying last year, so maybe that’s part of it. He was always there photographing her. I’m sure it’s hard for her not to have him cheering her on.

They are not baseless. All you have to do to discover how white people feel about Asian overachievers is to visit the college or AAP forums. Any Asian achievement is written off as tiger parenting. White achievement, in contrary, is always presented as self driven, and applauded. You're blind if you deny this.

It’s is due to parenting. And it works!

Very very rarely can an internally and intrinsically gifted child do that all alone with 1 or 2 neglectful parents without finding one adult somewhere to push them (coach, church, teacher, counselor who can ID talent and potential).

I f'ing guarantee you if she puts a toe out of line and the Chinese decide to detain her that the first call will be to the US Embassy. I don't begrudge her her win, but quaint as it is, I find it unpatriotic for her to be competing under the flag of our greatest global rival. Not a fan.

Prada or Chanel toe the line of the CCP. Like every other major international luxury brand. Even the House of Mouse (Disney) doesn't mess with China's leadership. The government will pull a fashion house's products from ALL ecommerce sites and physical stores with a snap of their fingers. That's hundreds of millions in lost market share.

How many of these countries are able to maintain or have a use for all the facilities they build after the games are done? Totally agree. Greece is summer , Canada is winter and nations all get a chance to be the “host” and highlight their culture. It is not just about the cost to an individual country but the absolute flagrant waste on a planet that is failing.
