The nyt has a graph. Cases are plummeting.

Yes, cases and hospitalizations are plummeting. Deaths are now falling. Deaths lagged behind a bit because reporting can be slow and because several states did data "dumps" of deaths classified as COVID from reviews of records over the past several months. That "catchup" reporting seems to be slowing/ending for now.

I am having no luck pasting in the image, but check covidtracking on twitter.

Relative to peak, in 7-day average terms, cases are down 69%, deaths are down 38%, and hospitalizations are down 48%.
The hospitalization numbers are in some ways the most reliable, b/c they are reported in real time.

Excerpts from the NYT morning newsletter:

If you’re a regular reader of this newsletter, you’re probably familiar with the idea of vaccine alarmism. It goes something like this:

The coronavirus vaccines aren’t 100 percent effective. Vaccinated people may still be contagious. And the virus variants may make everything worse. So don’t change your behavior even if you get a shot.

Much of this message has some basis in truth, but it is fundamentally misleading. The evidence so far suggests that a full dose of the vaccine — with the appropriate waiting period after the second shot — effectively eliminates the risk of Covid-19 death, nearly eliminates the risk of hospitalization and drastically reduces a person’s ability to infect somebody else. All of that is also true about the virus’s new variants.

I really enjoyed this article. I really do believe we're at the precipice of end game (where COVID will still likely be endemic but an entirely manageable/acceptable risk in the same category as all of our other daily risks). It's just going to run out of places to hop to and even when it does, the body will largely handle.

I'm so happy to see more data has been coming out on the transmission after vaccination part, I hope we get to a point soon where the messaging changes!

I enjoyed it too. I hope Dr. Makary's prediction is right on!
