Wow, I’m the one who said “Mare is not a bad person.” If you get this worked up about this, I can’t imagine how stressed you must be. So you never get invested in characters and hope for one thing or another to happen? Obviously, I know the whole thing is fake. But how a show ends leaves you with a certain feeling. And no, I won’t spend my life thinking about what happens to the rest of fake Mare’s life. But the the day I watch the finale, I might spend a minute imagining what a real person in Mare’s shoes would feel like in this situation. I’m good with that and it doesn’t make me a loser. I also don’t know too many adults who spend time calling adults losers. If someone is enjoying something, let them and move on. |
| I actually think that it’s John and Billy is covering for him. |
Agree |
I apologize. |
+1 When John told Lori not to tell Mare about Billy’s confession, he KNEW she would tell Mare - he knows his wife. He is framing his brother for his own crime. Unless this is another red herring. |
I agree that John is framing Billy, but I’m not 100% convinced that John pulled the trigger. It seems like there’s messy family business going on. |
I also agree that John is trying to frame Billy and plans to murder Billy on their fishing trip and make it look like a suicide and blame it on his guilty conscience. Billy saw the gun and knows what’s up though so it’s going to get messier. |

I think it’s very likely John and Lori’s son is the killer. One possibility: John sleeps with Erin, starting after the family retreat. Ryan somehow either kills her or sees the killing. John gets Billy to lie to take the fall for Ryan. Lori agrees to lie to Mare to protect her son. And Billy is worried John will kill him in the woods to set Billy up as the murderer and let Ryan off the hook.
That part seems pretty obvious to me now. Maybe it’s John who is the killer, but that outcome is somewhat predictable from the last two episodes. It wouldn’t be much of a twist. The gun-in-tackle-box stuff, and the photo, makes it pretty clear that it’s not Billy. I guess it could be Lore too but that just seems like a big plot stretch, as we haven’t heard anything that makes us worry Lore has that much anger in her. I have another theory about another plotline. This one is more tenuous. As some others have said, I think there’s deep dirt about Mare’s son that will come out. First, I don’t think he can still be alive given what we know. Mare said she cut him down and she’s the trustworthy character. But second, Siobhan had a scene where she said explicitly that Kevin was with someone else besides Carrie the last month before he died. Maybe that was Jess? Or Erin? Maybe Kevin was at the “family reunion” because Lori took him in, because she thought Mare was ignoring him due to work? Or maybe it was … /1 |

It’s very unlikely to be Brianna who was with Kevin. And who else is left? Lori? Dawn? Bethy? Colin’s mom? I suppose he could have been with a man, but there have been ZERO clues that he would have had a gay relationship.
I think the person Kevin was with before he died is worth trying to figure out because it unlocks this whole plotline. Maybe he was seeing prostitutes and picked up Erin that way? Seems unlikely due to his lack of money. I don’t see an angle with Kevin sleeping with Katie Bailey or the other girl in the attic. Whoever Kevin was with before he died will control what the twist is with Frank. If there’s a Kevin/Erin angle and Kevin was at the retreat, then Frank probably knows all about it - and was bringing diapers for that reason. (The paternity test in this case is a little dangerous as Frank has to be worried he is related to the father.) In this scenario the whole Ross family and Frank would be conspiring to keep details from everyone. I suppose if Frank knows the dad is John, even if Kevin is not involved, he might be bringing diapers and hiding it from Mare, and Faye may have left him because she was sick of him protecting John. |

Whatever the twist is with Kevin, I predict Mare resolves that conflict by her and Carrie reconciling to a degree, and Carrie coming to realize she can’t do motherhood all by herself and coming to live with Mare. Then Mare gets her son back symbolically, in the form of her grandson growing up in her house.

I’m 22:21, cont:
Another big hint is the gun. How did someone get the gun out of Mare’s attic? If that’s Ryan, he could have done it at a lot of different times after Kevin’s death. Or, Kevin himself may have taken it. One detail we don’t know that could come up later is who is Kevin’s dope dealer. I guess that if it were Frank or either of the Rosses, Carrie would know, and we haven’t seen any evidence of that. Maybe Dylan’s the dealer? Seems pretty unlikely as he was younger than Kevin. It seems possible that Kevin traded the gun for drugs. Or the opioid connection took him to Katie Bailey or even Hilary. That all sounds pretty unlikely. We don’t know who Freddie’s dealer is either. The tidbits we have about that places Freddie’s using all over the place — his house, Bethy’s basement, in a different town. I mean maybe the twist is that Freddie was Kevin’s hookup and Bethy knew and didn’t tell Mare. Again, all this seems unlikely as it would be totally out of the blue. |

He did have that violent episode in the school cafeteria when protecting his sister. Maybe he was trying to protect Erin too and something went wrong- he accidentally shot her instead of her attacker, etc. It doesn’t explain the shocking photo from the diary, though. |
|
I think there's a chance Ryan has witness disturbing violence though he's not necessarily the perpetrator of it in the middle of the woods and in the middle of the night.
At 12 he's likely fast asleep in his bed. |

I want to know who Kevin was with that last month.
Also, I rewatched ep 1 and part of 2 last night, and I think Siobhan is covering up some stuff. So is Frank. Whatever the secret is about Erin’s kid’s father, they know. |
