There are people all over the world and US who need things more than I do. I expect my government in my area though to look out first for me and the people in our community and if they help other people it is with the goal to help our community in turn. People naturally expect their tax dollars to help their community. Helping people outside of the citizens in that government area is called charity and is not something people expect to be part of a government budget. |

Spoken like a true hateful xenophobe.
How many tiki torches do you own? |
Which comment? The one about government representing their community? Hate to break it to you, but the rest of the world thinks the same way. Japanese expect their government to take care of Japanese citizens, etc. etc. If they think taking in immigrants or refugees is good for their government and business, they will increase numbers, but it is all related back to the benefit for its current citizens. |
You're not really helping your argument, trumptard. Asians in general, Japanese in particular, are some of the most racist people on earth. Little wonder they were allied with Germany in WWII. And fitting that you should use them as your example. |
You're right. This is a wealthy state and Montgomery County is significantly wealthier than the rest of the state. I think you are correct that we need to distribute the wealth more evenly. So maybe there should be an extra Montgomery County tax to support the dreamer's college fund. After all, that's the most fair wait to redistribute the wealth, right? They have the most, so should miss the extra money the least. |
|
I would support that 100%.
But why just MoCo? Why not tax the wealth in other parts of the state? |
Because there are very few parts of the state other than MoCo, where the average HHI is significantly higher than the rest of the state, where you can find a lot of support for this policy of free education for dreamers. While it may be a Democratic state, the rest of the state has less disposable income, is against higher taxes and is already suffering from a lack of state funds to handle issues that are of local importance. They don't see where the money will come from, they don't want existing budget line items cut further and don't want higher taxes. Montgomery County is one of the few places in the state where the majority of households can handle increases in taxes to support their pet projects and causes and hence think that tax and spend more is a valid way to run a government. Hogan has wider approval in the rest of the state due to his policies of making things better for the middle class and poorer residents. He made sure taxes did NOT go up this year, he cut the tolls on the various toll roads which puts actual cash back into the pockets of many middle class residents who have to commute via toll roads to work. And outside of MoCo, most of the state approved of the change to the school year which increased the state's income from taxes due to the extra week of summer. That extra revenue was used to help forestall any increases in taxes for the year and helped pay for a larger budget than last year. |
| Can you show me data that the school year change increased government revenue? |
Then why won't those wealthy MoCo residents move to DC or VA, which for many of them is only minutes away. Saying the wealthy should be taxed at a higher level on a national scale can work because, bloviating aside, next to no one is going to flee the country over this. But people will, and to a degree already have, move over the boarder if the relative tax burden here becomes much greater than neighboring areas. |
+1. Agree |
Oh, where to even begin.....???? First, no human being is "illegal". Second, these are the exact people who should be getting a hand-up, a little extra help to get them on even footing with your kids, who were already born on third base. Many of them can't afford tuition, so how are they supposed to go to college? Or maybe you don't want them to? Maybe you want them as a permanent underclass, that you can exploit? Either way, you sound like an absolutely cruel person. If a registered Democrat votes for hogan, they should be banned from the party for perpetuity. |
That's right, purge the people who vote for moderate Republicans. That's the path to success. |
Oh, please. It isn't their humanity that makes them illegal, and no one is saying so. Immigrant - a person who comes to a country where they were not born in order to settle there. "Illegal" describes the manner in which they do so. And for the record, I'm not interested in paying for anything they need either. Let the social safety net in their own country provide for their basic needs. El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Guatamala, etc., all have programs for low-cost housing, medical assistance, and employment. It is true that these programs have had difficulty in meeting needs in an increasingly deteriorating conditions, but look at the state of welfare programs in the United States, and we're really not doing any better. These countries are glad to send us their poor huddled masses. Maybe we should arrange a one-for-one exchange? |
Yes, that's a fantastic idea! A 1:1 exchange. We get a hard working Latinx immigrant, and we send racists like you there. Then you'll be murdered in short order, making room for another 1:1 exchange! Eventually, we'll get everyone out of there, and we'll be rid of all the racists here! Win-win!!!! Good idea!!!! I'm all for it! |
And there comes the racist card. Really, it gets tiring. What exactly was racist about my post? I believe immigrants to this country should enter legally, and as part of that process, prove that their entering the country will be beneficial to the United States. I don't care where they come from or what they look like. Try entering any other country on the planet, and they'll expect the same thing. I hate to break it to you, but that's not racism. |
