If it came down to Hogan vs Jealous in General Election who would you vote for?

No. A progressive Republican -- indeed any Republican -- would allow local boards of election to set the calendars for their own school districts, if they were ideologically consistent.

So your complaint is that he is too liberal because he was willing to have a statewide mandate supersede local control?

I am pointing out that it is hypocritical for a Republican to do so. And also bad for education, but that's a different issue.

I agree. Republicans traditionally want as local control as possible. Hogan just bought into the Franchot crazy train on that...

I am not a big Hogan fan but that’s going too far.

Hogan has denounced trump plenty of times. He just banned state military from helping trump separate families at the border.

That’s a pretty low bar for decency.

At least it shows he is much better than the creep in the oval office.

Hogan. Checks and balances are good.

Voting for Jealous in the general even though I strongly backed Baker.

Hogan lost me with the idiotic education moves and the even more idiotic plan for 270/Beltway.

Hogan without a doubt.

Any Democrat over Hogan.

I didn't like the calendar decision either, but you are wildly blowing it out of proportion. Neither party is that intellectually consistent and this is a pretty minor breach of Republican ideology.

And in terms of being bad for education, it is starting classes one week later. It really doesn't affect the quality of education.

Nope.

Virginian here who hasn't paid attention to MD politics. I've generally heard positive things about Hogan and him being a moderate. Does he have any positions that are strictly Republican conservative positions?

Yes everyone calm down it barely affects anything. I actually prefer longer summers especially now with kids in high school. More family time

No, he is very centrist and recognizes that he is in a blue state.

I'm going to vote for Jealous twice.

Jealous. I am never voting for a republican again, even though I like hogan. We have to eradicate the GOP.

I’d agree if the left weren’t overreaching so much. Jealous is promising all sorts of free shit. Who’s going to pay for all that. I’d rather take a centrist republican who hates Trump and won’t spend taxpayer money like a drunken sailor.
