Don't lie-- there are fewer restrictions on guns than ever before, even though there SHOULD be because they are more accurate and deadly than when the 2nd was written. There should be more restrictions on ammunition too. |
This is completely, totally untrue. There were NO federal laws banning guns prior to the 1930's. Since then, federal bans in the 30's, 1968, 1986, 1989, 1993, 1994, and various state bans since the mid 90's through the present, have drastically reduced both the types of guns Citizens are permited to own, and created massive amounts of red tape for people to comply with in some states. The only gun rights advancements in the last 20 years have been an increase in the number sates granting concealed carry licenses, which has resulted in a corresponding reduction in crime in those states. |

haven't more types of guns been created in those intervening years?
Technology and all |
|
There hasn't been a "new" operating system in firearm design since Hiram Maxim invented the machine gun in 1883.
That was the last major development in firearm technology. 134 years ago. |
| The hard on for guns in this country is pathetic. A bunch of paranoid, wannabe cowboys. I get of you live in North Dakota and want to hunt an elk or whatever with a rifle (black powder musket if you want to do it like our fore fathers), but generally handguns serve no purpose other than killing humans. It's such a sad state of affairs. We live in a culture than glorifies ignorance and violence. Revels in it. Viewers are more sheltered from a naked breast on tv than Schwarzenegger blasting hundred of people away. I guess we're a culture of roughly 50% low brow WWF fans. Maybe the movie Idiocracy was actually a documentary. Flame away. I welcome it. You and your guns are the problem, not me. I wish I was living back in Sydney, Australia and not with so many people who witness tragedy every day, but are either too f*cking myopic or filled with cognitive dissonance to do anything about it. F*ck you for putting our children at risk for your paranoia. |
Amen! |
Your (silly, cliched, hyperbolic, ignorant, stereotypical, uninformed) opinion has been noted. Thanks. |
PP, touched a nerve, clearly. Nothing PP notes is far off base. We are the country with the most guns per capita - more guns than people - and an insanely high murder by gun rate to boot. We have 25x the murder by gun rate than any other wealthy country in the world. The NRA has sold low information citizens on this notion that guns make them safer which is a terrible lie. We care more about guns than people in this country. |

Well, since you insist, I'll pick the post apart point by point
-I'm not a cowboy. Although I have owned horses and do ride, I ride hunter-jumper, not western. -about 9,000 ARE murdered by someone else using a firearm here annually. In a country of 320,000,000 people. And roughly 7,000 of that 9,000 figure are criminals killing other criminals. We need to focus on eliminating the remaining 2,000 innocent lives from that number, rather than the 7,000 criminals. - if you remove JUST the cities of Chicago, New Orleans, Oakland, Baltimore and Gary, Indiana from the statistical sample, the firearm murder rate for the US drops below most countries in the world, to being on par with those countries frequently used as examples for gun ban justifications. -a trained firearm user is FAR safer from criminally inflicted harm, both in the home and outside it, than a otherswise similar, unarmed person. If guns didn't offer a considerable measure of protection against physical harm, police officers wouldn't carry them. - a black powder musket, in my opinion, is typically lacking in both sufficient power and accuracy, to be relied to consistently kill an Elk quickly and humanely. Far better to use a more modern rifle and calber better suited for large game. Personally, I'd suggest at least a .30-06 for Elk. .300 WinMag is an even better choice. -WWF changed their name years ago to WWE. And I'm not a wrestling fan anyway. Although I did write a paper in one of my Psych undergrad classes comparing televised wrestling with the Globe Theatre. The groundlings for both venues would've gotten along swimmingly, btw. -I wish you were living back in Sydney, too. Because that's where you belong. Not here. You're a Subject, not a Citizen. It's ok, America isn't for everyone. Please, consider going back home. -lastly, I'll refrain from a "fuck you, too".... because frankly, that's very low brow. G'day. |
April 21, 2017 - WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Authorities in Williams County say no charges will be filed in the case of a toddler who shot himself with a loaded gun left on a bathroom counter. Three-year-old Colvin Broome survived after accidentally shooting himself in the head last December at his home near Williston. The Williams County Sheriff's Office says the case is now closed and the state attorney has declined to issue any charges. |
| How old are these parents? Holy cow - she looks 12 |
Old enough to buy a gun, apparently. |
Old enough to be charged with negligence, if authorities actually cared to stop this shit Accident my ass |
Yeah, they get to keep their gun and their kid. Leave the gun; take the kid--away from crappy parents. |
you read my mind |
