Over the coming weeks and months, I'll be posting news stories to this thread about just some of the innocent children who are harmed by guns. They are just part of the price our society is paying to allow easy access to guns.
I, for one, do not consider the price of these children's lives to be worth the benefit of having easy access to guns. I'm not advocating for elimination of all guns. I'm just saying that our society needs to make some changes to ensure guns are distributed, stored, and used more safely. Stop the senseless deaths of innocents. |

This is a really sad story.
Unintentional firearm deaths doesn't even make the top ten list of the ways 4 year olds die. Do you know what tops the list of ways 4 year olds die? Drowning. And yet, I'm an asshole for telling the mom on the other thread that she needs to prioritize teaching her kid to swim. |
Fortunately, our society is advanced enough that we can work to reduce both accidental drownings and accidental shootings at the same time. It's not a choice of one or the other. I hope you'll do your part to help prevent accidental shootings. |
Swimming is pretty good for children. So there is a cost but also a huge benefit. |

June 19, 2016 - Fourteen-year-old Ethan Younger found out the hard way when he was spending the night at a friend’s house. “I was shot by a 12-gauge shotgun,” Younger said. He was wounded in the leg when the gun went off as a friend was handling it. Ethan’s mom, Kristine, remembers getting to the hospital. “That’s when they told me that it had hit a femoral artery, and that they were trying to stop the bleeding, but they hadn’t yet,” she recalled. “The doctors were literally on top of him, and they said ‘We’re going to wheel him out to surgery.” Ethan spent 40 days at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and has recovered. He now encourages parents to ask a question before they let their kids go to a friend’s house: “Are there any guns in the house? If so, are they locked up?Where are they?” http://ktar.com/story/1124253/phoenix-teen-accidentally-shot-by-loaded-gun-urges-parents-to-be-cautious/ |
