I don't believe you can equate Chris Robinson from Mcdonogh with the actions of the 2 coaches listed in the above links. Chris R has not been implicated in any sort of wrong doing. So please don't but Chris in the same arena with the club guys listed in the links. |
| Does going to a private school (thinking IAC or WCAC) make one more "recruitable"? Or can we stay the course at our public and bank in our tier one club team to get colleges to take our son seriously? |
How much it would help really depends on the specific situation. All things being equal, being from a well known WCAC or IAC team lends credibility to a player. But that doesn’t mean in any given individual situation the outcome would be better if you went to those schools. There are public school kids that are playing at D1 powers from this area, so it’s not impossible. |
Not that PP. But when my DS is in 7th grade he'll be too old for many area summer camps. I'll be looking for an all-day camp. Most of the lax camps I've seen on the internet last one week. Are there any that have multi-week programs? His travel team had a summer program, but it was practice Thursday night and game on the weekend, not a "day camp" thing. |
| Maryland and the Naval Academy have multi-week camps. I'm not sure if they go back to back but you can check the team websites. |
Interesting. I assume he’s still running M&D though, yes? He also runs Blue Chips camp and some tournaments. I’m curious what happened and what the fallout will be. |
I doubt the public will ever know what exactly happened but certainly he did something he shouldn't have. I doubt it rose to the level of clearly illegal behavior and I doubt it had anything directly to do with the girls. But, anyone who believes his letter and his rationale for "resigning" is just plain naive. Noone leaves like that and especially noone with a daughter who is a senior lacrosse player in the program. They (McD) let him resign. They (McD) let him keep his reputation intact. McD will have a tough season under the assistant head coach, Love, but they will move on. They will have some bright new star leading the program next year. Chris Robinson's reputation is his business and that will likely thrive with his full attention: M&D, Robinson Sports, NGLL, etc... Chris Robinson will focus on his girls' lacrosse Spring league and making it national and developing more camps, clinics, leagues and events. In many ways this will be beneficial to more kids as he will no longer have to be loyal and directed toward one school. The politics of how he will interact and make deals with high school lacrosse coaches in his area should be very interesting to observe. |
| Anyone going to Jake Reed next summer? Is it still considered as pre-eminent as 5 years ago? |
|
to "apply" to Jake Reed for this summer you have to pay $99?

| Money grab. |
Depends on your son and his skill level. If he’s a top 10% kid in the country he can go wherever he wants, heck even Home School him. If he’s a borderline player and wants to get better and more exposure, playing in the IAC or top WCAC will only help him develop and be more appealing to a college coach. There are plenty of public school kids that go to great colleges, but their parents already knew before 9th grade there was something there. With the new recruiting rules I doubt many parents have that insight so it’s a tough call. |
Our son recently went to a invite recruiting event and the coaches said kids should have a video link, a snapshot of any test scores plus grades and a cover email and send out individually to colleges they are interested in. Then let them know which summer tournaments the player will be at/team name. D3 can make contact back with the players but D1 can't until junior year. Staying on a top club team with the above approach would hopefully work for private and public school players. There were definitely some public kids at this event along with private. |
| When do the club lacrosse and rec lacrosse begin the spring season? |
| Spring club activity is not really a thing for high school lax players |
| For non-high school club teams, spring season starts for most in mid-March with preseason tournaments and then hoco league starts late March/beginning of April. Rec leagues start late March/early April most places. |
