This thread was started because Wood MS deemed it appropriate to spend an hour, teaching kids an entire lesson on BLM today.

Meanwhile, at all MSs, our kids’ Math classes are skipping over material, because there is ‘not enough time’ to teach the entire year’s curriculum.

Strange school system, this is.

You want them to stop teaching Social Studies in middle school?

That isn't social studies. Would you like them to do an equal lesson on the KKK?

NP. BLM isn't a hate group classified as a terrorist organization, an hour is nothing and no one here has the first clue about what CRT is.

I'm actually disturbed we are just accepting the premise. I don't know what was actually taught where and think it's very likely the OP is simply stirring the pot.

There are several people here who are experts on CRT. We've had to do this to counter racist woke insanity.

Everything Kendi says/writes is CRT. And so is this from someone in the MCPS equity division: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20 Sowing the seeds of hate. Disgusting.

You keep posting this Twitter link as if there's something wrong with it, but I don't understand why? Are you one of those people who want to pretend that society isn't biased towards white people against people of color, and so you think pointing that out is somehow "racist"?

I’m not that poster, but you realize what they’re describing is sort of a twisted version of how the KKK sees “whiteness” right? It’s so far from a mainstream view that it’s not even funny.

What do you mean? Whiteness is a made-up concept that was created in order define certain people as white and therefore superior to people of color, right? And that's what they're basically saying on the flipcharts, right? Or what do you think "whiteness" is?

What they’re saying on the flipcharts is so incoherent that it’s barely worth discussing, but I guess I’ll bite: whiteness is as fake and made-up as blackness or Asianness. It’s meaningless and arbitrary.

Oh and if they want to sound smart, they might want to learn how to spell the word “privilege.”

Whiteness is the most systems a set up to favor white/hetero/rich privilege. Again acknowledging that racism is baked into our society in lots of unconscious ways and that people can benefit from the privileges of a racist system that's designed to support them without being an active racist KKK member.

You can talk about systemic racism without casting it as what “whiteness” is.

I’d also love to know your definition of blackness or Asianness.

Blackness would be a system set up to favor black people. A society that has baked in laws to support black people.

Like affirmative action.

11. Black Villages
We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, and especially “our” children to the degree that mothers, parents and children are comfortable.

2/3 of black babies are born to single mothers, so it makes sense that they want society to stop operating with 2-parent households in mind. That's a crazy notion because single parenthood is a 1-way ticket to being poor. But this is why they want to decenter the nuclear family.

Now you're just making stuff up to fit your narrative. "Among solo parents, 42% are white and 28% are black"

https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2018/04/25/the-changing-profile-of-unmarried-parents/

That's the measure of the percentage of kids born to black vs white single mothers in the overall population. But if you look at 100% of black births, roughly 70%of them are to single mothers, thus my statement that 2/3 of black babies are born to single mothers.

Hush. You should know better than to let facts get in the way of our new state-supported religion.

There isn't evidence as none of this stuff has been critically reviewed. Actually, I take that back. There is anecdotal evidence which the wokes have repackaged as "lived experience" which they demand that you accept in place of data and critical analysis because they have no data or critical analysis. CRT is akin to a cult or a religion.

I would pay to see Kendi or DiAngelo debate this stuff with someone, say...oh I don't know...John McWhorter perhaps. Their religion cannot stand up to science

They would destroy him. You can’t refute historical facts about how black people have been systematically treated in the US with vague claims of white goodness and how we’ll all benefit from the system if we just play our parts.

You obviously haven't read any McWhorter. He's unapologetically pro-black and sees CRT as anti-black.

Baked in? Except when it isn’t as in when one group/race/religion discriminated against others based on something even when others consider both to be white.

Whiteness is a horrible word to use to describe all discrimination.

Especially because Asians are FAR better at whiteness (https://www.the-sun.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2020/07/JF-US-AFRICAN-AMERICAN-COMP-02.jpg?strip=all&quality=100&w=1200&h=800&crop=1) than white people are.

Well, genius, we can’t have evidence until we actually TRY it. You know, what is happening right now?

Wait, what?

Is that how we determine what MCPS is teaching?

That didn’t work so well with Curriculum 2.0. They brought in an unproven curriculum which turned out to be an enormous waste of money.

I’d prefer MCPS stick to proven teaching methods and curriculums.

I adamantly object and I am anything but a racist. If I find out this is going on in my kids' classrooms, I will pull them out of class while these sessions are going on. It's really quite simple.

Right....

Let me give you a clue - if you ever find yourself exclaiming that you aren't a racist...you are probably a racist.

Don't worry, you have plenty of company.

This is bullying to the nth degree. You are labeled a racist if you disagree with schools teaching BLM ideology. Many of us don’t believe in viewing everything through a racial lens. The fact that there is so much divisive vitriol on this thread demonstrates the divisiveness of the BLM movement. It is dividing our society and will never bring us together. There are other ways to go about teaching people not to be racist and the BLM ideology and CRT is not the way to do it.

Awww, all racists hate it when you call them a racist. So I’ll do it again. You are unequivocally a racist. Be better. At least your kids in public schools will be more educated and empathetic than you.

NP

I was trying to come up with a cutting response to this BS, but then decided to laugh instead. You “everyone is a racist!” folks are certainly entertaining. It’s like Oprah - “You’re a racist! And you’re a racist! And you’re a racist!!”

Thanks for that. Amusing end to a long week.

And, the most racist people are screaming others are racist without knowing them.

It’s so much easier to call someone a racist than to engage in civil discourse.

You don’t get to demand schools teach everything you believe in. You can’t demand they not teach evolution or that the world is flat just because you believe it.

Those things have been proven for centuries. CRT hasn't been scrutinized even a little bit. Kendi hasn't once taken his writings to a conference for critical review. So CRT is more like a religion or a cult. And we don't allow either of those in our schools.

You have no idea what you’re talking about, not do I think you know what CRT actually is. There have been legal scholars writing about this since the 70s. It’s a standard component of law school curricula and has been for a while. It’s not any more of a ‘cult’ than, say, neoliberalism is.

BLM has no issue with racism toward whites and encouraged it during their riots especially when they were attacking white people on the streets.

The county will be revising the social studies curriculum at the elementary level for the 2022-2023 school year.

Here’s part of an email staff received about upcoming changes and plans for revising the social studies curriculum (NOT a change for next year):

The MSDE social studies standards mirror national standards (C3): They focus on history, geography, culture, and economics with a focus on inquiry, using evidence, and writing/speaking about learning and making conclusions. The revised standards will also incorporate social action and highlight activism. The MCPS vision is that the revised curriculum will prepare students for middle school inquiry; incorporate social justice standards; and will also incorporate results of the ongoing antiracist audit. There will be opportunities for teachers to complete surveys and possibly participate in focus groups around these changes, including giving input on the needed characteristics of a purchased social studies curriculum.

So much falseness here.

There is no such thing as ‘racism to whites’ in the US. The entire system is set up to favor white people and has been for centuries. You can be prejudiced against white people, sure, but ‘racism to whites’ is an oxymoron.

And here is the fine line. You can be prejudiced against black people without actually being racist. Yet that distinctions seems to have vanished completely.
