I am wondering if this is school-specific or MCPS-wide. Just looking to get more info before I approach the principal with my questions/concerns.

MCPS is going all in on CRT (critical race theory) which is extremely racist. They probably won't call it that though. Instead look for SEL (social emotional learning) and culturally responsive curriculum. And it's being done during the 8th period connect time.

CRT is not "extremely racist." The only one who is racist is someone who would object to it by characterizing it as ""extremely racist."

Do you actually have a white robe and hood in your closet?

Define white.

This thread was started because Wood MS deemed it appropriate to spend an hour, teaching kids an entire lesson on BLM today.

Meanwhile, at all MSs, our kids’ Math classes are skipping over material, because there is ‘not enough time’ to teach the entire year’s curriculum.

Strange school system, this is.

You want them to stop teaching Social Studies in middle school?

That isn't social studies. Would you like them to do an equal lesson on the KKK?

NP. BLM isn't a hate group classified as a terrorist organization, an hour is nothing and no one here has the first clue about what CRT is.

I'm actually disturbed we are just accepting the premise. I don't know what was actually taught where and think it's very likely the OP is simply stirring the pot.

There are several people here who are experts on CRT. We've had to do this to counter racist woke insanity.

Everything Kendi says/writes is CRT. And so is this from someone in the MCPS equity division: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20 Sowing the seeds of hate. Disgusting.

You keep posting this Twitter link as if there's something wrong with it, but I don't understand why? Are you one of those people who want to pretend that society isn't biased towards white people against people of color, and so you think pointing that out is somehow "racist"?

I’m not that poster, but you realize what they’re describing is sort of a twisted version of how the KKK sees “whiteness” right? It’s so far from a mainstream view that it’s not even funny.

What do you mean? Whiteness is a made-up concept that was created in order define certain people as white and therefore superior to people of color, right? And that's what they're basically saying on the flipcharts, right? Or what do you think "whiteness" is?

What they’re saying on the flipcharts is so incoherent that it’s barely worth discussing, but I guess I’ll bite: whiteness is as fake and made-up as blackness or Asianness. It’s meaningless and arbitrary.

Oh and if they want to sound smart, they might want to learn how to spell the word “privilege.”

Whiteness is the most systems a set up to favor white/hetero/rich privilege. Again acknowledging that racism is baked into our society in lots of unconscious ways and that people can benefit from the privileges of a racist system that's designed to support them without being an active racist KKK member.

Baked in? Except when it isn’t as in when one group/race/religion discriminated against others based on something even when others consider both to be white.

Whiteness is a horrible word to use to describe all discrimination.

I just can’t believe parents don’t see through this b.s. Completely unfalsifiable and based on platitudes of a corporate hustler. You might as well reorganize the curriculum based on the principles of “Who moved my cheese?” Just utterly unserious. And witness its most vocal advocate on this thread, an Internet troll whose defense amounts to calling everybody racists and Karens.

If only the passion seen on this thread was directed toward MCPS.

Can we get ALL the kids leaning in person again? Can we do a better job teaching math and science? Can we provide support for kids who need help?

No - we are debating this woke garbage that is being shoved down the mouths of children. It is insanity. My values are an educated populace and taking care of childcare - this woke nonsense has no place in education.

I actually would love to see cops fo contextual stops on teen and white makes in Bethesda all.day.long. I’d also like IRS to do more audits of Bethesda taxes.

I’m sure most teens have pot or alcohol in the car. Let’s put these thugs in jail.

This legitimately made me laugh!

Growing up in an area where creationism was taught in public schools (in a top school system) it’s crazy that there is an outcry over the principles of BLM being taught in school. BLM is much more relevant than much of the traditional history curriculum. Our children should absolutely learn about it in an educational setting. The “leave this for parents to teach” concept is precisely why racism continues to be so prevalent in our society. I cannot adequately teach my kids math, but I can support what they are being taught in school. Likewise, I want the educators to be the ones teaching this, I am self aware enough to know I cannot do it on my own - particularly since I cannot provide the different perspectives/experiences their peers can share in the classroom.

Because CRT is more of a religion and is not rooted in science, it's all just opinions. So what you're saying is that you trust teachers; opinions over your own. I do not similarly share your faith.

11. Black Villages
We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, and especially “our” children to the degree that mothers, parents and children are comfortable.

2/3 of black babies are born to single mothers, so it makes sense that they want society to stop operating with 2-parent households in mind. That's a crazy notion because single parenthood is a 1-way ticket to being poor. But this is why they want to decenter the nuclear family.

Now you're just making stuff up to fit your narrative. "Among solo parents, 42% are white and 28% are black"

And here it is. I was wondering how long it would take one of the CRT proponents to start conflating race and class (and sexuality thrown in as a bonus). This is the trick that CRT proponents love to use. This allows them to paint poor West Virginia coal miners as having the same kind of privilege as Jeff Bezos. Ridiculous.

One thing I have trouble understanding is that these societal issues exist in most cultures of alt races. I don’t feel that whiteness is a clear enough reason for them i cultures with few white people.

That's the measure of the percentage of kids born to black vs white single mothers in the overall population. But if you look at 100% of black births, roughly 70%of them are to single mothers, thus my statement that 2/3 of black babies are born to single mothers.

Right. And Harry Potter is a financially successful enterprise, just like BLM. So thank you for helping prove the point that BLM is an official organization with a financial interst.
