Is your MSer learning the 13 Guiding Principles of BLM?

If you seriously taught kindergarteners about homosexuality and transgender issues then I really hope you get fired. And that's not even considering the political indoctrination which should also be a fireable offense.

I cannot believe what this country has come to that this is happening in our public schools.

It's amazing what we're discovering this year because of being virtual. There's a 4th grade teacher in my friend's ES that has "Children and adults are equals" in his Twitter bio. That sounds like something a child molester would say.

WTAF is WRONG with you? Of course you teach children to be accepting of everyone. That includes homosexuals and transgender people. You don't fire teachers for teaching that. The very fact that you would suggest such a thing announces that you are clearly a defective person of bad character who gets absolutely NO say in what children are taught. Sit down. And shut up. Your opinions are not valid and you are not to share them anymore.

I am wondering if this is school-specific or MCPS-wide. Just looking to get more info before I approach the principal with my questions/concerns.

MCPS is going all in on CRT (critical race theory) which is extremely racist. They probably won't call it that though. Instead look for SEL (social emotional learning) and culturally responsive curriculum. And it's being done during the 8th period connect time.

CRT is not "extremely racist." The only one who is racist is someone who would object to it by characterizing it as ""extremely racist."

Do you actually have a white robe and hood in your closet?

Of course it is. It starts with the premise that the post important characteristic about someone is their race.

Explain how that is racist. I realize well-intentioned white people have been taught not to see color and so we do this awkward thing of "do you see that lady with the purple blouse and the long hair and the sunglasses" instead of "hey, do you see the black lady over there?" But the very act of deciding "not seeing color" is not racist is, in fact, a manifestation of white privilege. People of color WANT you to see their color. They don't want you to pretend like race isn't a thing. It's about APPRECIATING DIFFERENCES, not ignoring them. But white people stamping their feet and demanding that we are somehow in a post-racial colorblind society and so all the darkies should just get with that program ... is racist.

Thanks but I prefer to focus on what we have in common, not our differences.

This is CRT in practice, right here in MPCS: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20

"skin color is a problem that..." = racist

I think this is actually useful because white people get sooooo uptight and take it personally when people point out racism. If more white people understood these concepts, they could look at racism objectively and focus more on the problems and less on getting offended when somebody points out how lots of our institutions favor white people. (I’m white by the way)

But I know people hate hearing that their supposed colorblindness isn’t good enough so I’ll stop there.

Agree. I find this alarming. Not to mention, stupid.

What possible concern would you have with this? Wow.

Why is the school spending an entire period highlighting a particular political movement? Isn’t BLM a political movement?

because that's the whole point of social studies?

Why are you so threatened by this? Why shouldn’t children learn to accept everyone? Evolve. The world is moving on without people like you.

That’s why we are starting to see a mass exodus from public schools right now which will change the landscape of everything from real estate prices to an even further widening of the ideological gap between leftists and everyone else.

But how will things ever get better for Black people (and other marginalized groups) if we only focus on what we have in common and not things that they in particular struggle with?

I can think of several valid concerns.

Such as?

No we should only study political things that happened in the past and aren’t immediately relevant to our lives so that everybody stays comfortable.

If they were highlighting actual racism, I'd agree with you. But MCPS is about to redefine racism in Policy ACA as any difference measured by race if it disadvantages an underserved minority. That means if Asian kids score 20 points higher on a test than black kids, that will be racism. If the black kid calls the Asian kid a derogatory name for scoring better, that won't be racism. This is utter lunacy.

Thanks but you’re just plain wrong. You should actively be recognizing differences and celebrating those differences. Pretending you don’t see color or what people are for who they are doesn’t make anti-racist. Why don’t you try listening when others are helping to educate you? It’s called growth— try it.
