Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
They're not subject to FOIA. That's the federal law. It will be interesting to find out who (if anybody) has been e-mailing the BoE about this. It's hard for me to imagine that somebody would actually put their name to it, but people do all kinds of unimaginable things, all the time. |
Ending the long-standing segregation in the county should be the board of education's number one priority. The unparalleled number of racial incidents at many schools supports this. It is high time we end segregation and embrace diversity. |

I learned about CRT in college as part of a Sociology and Law course. It was taught as one of many theories to explain why it was harder for Blacks to get ahead. At that age, we could have meaningful debates about the strengths and weaknesses of the theory. It was not taught as fact. I agree with aspects of the theory but struggle with the way it overly conflates race and class issues.
In every society of the world, people who have less resources (money, jobs, healthcare, education) generally do not do as well as those with more resources, regardless as to race. I do not deny that poor Blacks have it harder than poor Whites and there are structural reasons for why it is often harder for poor Blacks to get ahead than poor Whites. I don't deny that wealthy Blacks can be subject to bias or discrimination. However, a well educated Black family with resources has more privilege and opportunity than a poor White. A lot of the way CRT is taught today gives the perception to young children that a White person is always more privileged than a Black person which is simply not true. I do not believe a person's race determines their destiny. But when we talk to young kids (that are too young to know how to debate) about race in terms of giving them the impression that Blacks are always oppressed and the oppressors are Whites, white privilege, and "whiteness", we are shaping their view of Blacks in a counterproductive way to what they want to accomplish through this teaching. What is often considered "whiteness" is simply the culture and values of a different class in our society, which every race belongs to. The problems of poverty can be addressed through more resources but policy-makers can't agree on where those resources should come from. |
White people are rarely shot by police for the same reasons Black people are, regardless of income. |
Not true at all. White people are shot by police far more often that black people. |
Blacks are killed by police at a rate 2.5 times higher than Whites. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:WlvZ99l9fywJ:https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/57907/cdc_57907_DS1.pdf+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us |
Extremely well put. |
