I am wondering if this is school-specific or MCPS-wide. Just looking to get more info before I approach the principal with my questions/concerns.

What possible concern would you have with this? Wow.

Why is the school spending an entire period highlighting a particular political movement? Isn’t BLM a political movement?

MCPS is going all in on CRT (critical race theory) which is extremely racist. They probably won't call it that though. Instead look for SEL (social emotional learning) and culturally responsive curriculum. And it's being done during the 8th period connect time.

CRT is not "extremely racist." The only one who is racist is someone who would object to it by characterizing it as ""extremely racist."

Do you actually have a white robe and hood in your closet?

Prepare for your head to explode: I taught the 13 principles to my kindergarteners. Each class in our school adopted one of the principles to study in depth, from prek to 8th grade.

Why shouldn't it? Articulate the reasons.

Last I checked, yes, schools absolutely SHOULD be teaching about current events.

I hope the kindergarteners got empathy and not globalism lol. But this is so good to hear. I'm glad this is happening.

Of course it is. It starts with the premise that the post important characteristic about someone is their race.

Promoting a Marxist Socialist anti-family racist organization is not “teaching about current events.”

This is CRT in practice, right here in MPCS: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20

"skin color is a problem that..." = racist

Kids learn about all sorts of political ideologies in school, why not one that is current and likely relevant to their lives? You can’t tell me they should learn about the aims of the Civil Rights Movement (or heck the Third Reich) but not the goals of Black Lives Matter organizers.

If you seriously taught kindergarteners about homosexuality and transgender issues then I really hope you get fired. And that's not even considering the political indoctrination which should also be a fireable offense.

I cannot believe what this country has come to that this is happening in our public schools.

Explain how that is racist. I realize well-intentioned white people have been taught not to see color and so we do this awkward thing of "do you see that lady with the purple blouse and the long hair and the sunglasses" instead of "hey, do you see the black lady over there?" But the very act of deciding "not seeing color" is not racist is, in fact, a manifestation of white privilege. People of color WANT you to see their color. They don't want you to pretend like race isn't a thing. It's about APPRECIATING DIFFERENCES, not ignoring them. But white people stamping their feet and demanding that we are somehow in a post-racial colorblind society and so all the darkies should just get with that program ... is racist.

I'm fine with them learning about it as yet another political organization at an appropriate age (e.g. high school). But that's not the way it's being done, is it.

Please stop pushing your political agenda on impressionable children. BLM is an organization that supports a guy who tried to murder a police officer. They also couldn't care less about white people killed by police officers, and that is why they are a racist organization.
