I would argue that those people are also using a fringe definition of racism. Doesn't make the definition at the other end of the spectrum any more correct.

You mean the end of the spectrum where 99.9% of us are that defines racism as treating people differently by race ?

If that’s your definition of racism, it sounds like we are aligned. The end of the spectrum that I was referring to was in the post above, where it is suggested that white people cannot be victims of racism because racism = the systemic oppression of nonwhite populations.

Merriam-Webster's definitions of racism do include systemic oppression. "Treating people differently" is more akin to discrimination than racism.

1: a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2a: the systemic oppression of a racial group to the social, economic, and political advantage of another
specifically : WHITE SUPREMACY sense 2

b: a political or social system founded on racism and designed to execute its principles

It can include systemic oppression, and clearly that's how the word is being used in much of the discourse about racial justice. But the definition was updated to include this in June 2020, after some of the principles and language of CRT/antiracism attracted public attention in response to George Floyd's murder and the racial justice protests.

I don't think it changes the fact that most people outside progressive ("woke," if you want to call it that) circles - i.e. most people in the country - view racism as treating people differently because of their race. Redefining racism to mean systemic oppression of nonwhites (as a distinct concept from treating people differently because of their race) and flatly stating that white people cannot ever be victims of racism is fringe behavior.

It really isn't fringe behavior. I'm old enough to remember when people used the term "reverse racism" to describe perceived systematic disadvantaging of white people for being white people. If racism applied to white people too, there would have been no need for the "reverse" part.

Anybody can be bigoted or have prejudices about anybody, of course. But you really have to stick your fingers in your ears, squinch your eyes closed hard, and shout LA LA LA really loudly, to insist that it's all just about individually people's individual prejudices, and deny the existence of structural racism.

"Reverse racism" was a dog-whistle to white nationalists.

I am wondering if this is school-specific or MCPS-wide. Just looking to get more info before I approach the principal with my questions/concerns.

It's so cool that they're doing this at your school. They really need more of this empathy training in Western moco to help reduce the racial incidents at the segregated schools.

MCPS is going all in on CRT (critical race theory) which is extremely racist. They probably won't call it that though. Instead look for SEL (social emotional learning) and culturally responsive curriculum. And it's being done during the 8th period connect time.

DP you even understand what critical race theory is genius?

Yes. This is a good example of it right here in MCPS. https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20

Oh, sure. If you want to discuss "structural racism" that's conversation we could have. But to pretend that racism MEANS structural racism is a political play meant to sneak things by people who aren't paying attention. Kind of like equity. Most people think it means equality when it means the opposite. But wokes knew that using this word would allow them to pass all kids of insane policy without any push back because it sounds so much like equality that no one would notice. And they were right until now.

Empathy training? You mean hate-training. Speaking of segregated schools, I emailed the BOE to ask them to integrate PG County Schools with MCPS east county schools so that they are not segregated. My worry was that the geography factor might prevent busing in Takoma Park and I didn't want you to miss out on all the benefits of diversity. There are PG County schools only a mile from Takoma Park (not surprising because Takoma Park seceded from PG county in the 90s) so the bus rides would be negligible. You're welcome.

I hope they are planning to hire more mental health counselors to support kids who they mess up with this propaganda.

They need mental health counselors because the kids are being raised by crazies like the PP posting the Twitter link 1000 times.

Did you know that e-mails to the BoE are public records, and people can request them under the Maryland Public Information Act?

Yes! It's how we know that "Snake Eyes" Harris wants to move kids around to a different school every year based on a roll of the dice. It's how we know that the boundary policy was changed illegally. These morons forgot that their emails were subject to FOIA.

Great! I expect to see a lot of east county progressives' names on these emails. After all, you support diversity don't you? Or do you only support it when it means bringing more white and Asian kids to your schools?

And we'll keep pushing it out there until that racist and anyone else promoting hate is fired.
