I hope the Democrats pass the cr with the November 21 date a few days ahead of the deadline so that we can get some pay before going back into shutdown.

Dude, "passing the CR" means inflicting an 80% budget cut to the State Department because that's what is in the OBBB. "Pass the clean CR" is the next step in actually implementing the OBBB. For many of you on DCUM, if they "pass the CR" you'll get back pay for a few paychecks and then you'll get RIF'd before the end of the year.

It's not going to happen.

They are waiting until Nov 21 CR to expire and then the Senate will show their hand - some sort of budget package that will get 60 votes and the House will need to accept it without changes.

The 80% budget cut includes USAID, which has already been dismantled so that figure is a bit misleading.

It will likely be a package designed and drafted by the Senate, the House will just need to vote "Yes" to get it moving.

So yeah, two more weeks before we see anything happen. Federal government reopens at 12:01AM on Monday, the 24th.

I've been saying this for weeks.

oh yeah? show me the post(s)

Sure, I predicted it a few times:

I’ve heard this one before…..

ok but why does Johnson's CR expiration date matter at this point? why does the House 'have to' come back and vote for something after 11/21 specifically? or for that matter, 11/27?

I heard that even before the furlough started. (From a friend in polling who had been speaking with someone in Govt Affairs.) I don't know if I totally believe it, and I certainly hope it isn't true, but having heard "the midterms" once reframed my entire thinking about the whole thing.

The fact that a few people leaped to that possibility is distressing.

But what are Feds going to do? The longer it goes on, if they quit the may forgo back pay. And no one is hiring anyways. We are really in a bind, like working for a startup and hoping for some upside eventually.

NGL, don't quit. Just go out and get another job in the meantime or do whatever you need to do to survive.

No one is checking anything right now, there isn't even an Ethics Office to review your proposal for outside work. The lights are on, but nobody is home.

Some of us are excepted.

But doesn’t matter, the cruddy job market can’t absorb $2M new workers.

What do you mean? The CR must be approved by both houses and signed by trump.

The current CR under vote runs out 11/21. So no matter what happens if we want an appropriations budget, we need both houses to vote on a new one that goes beyond 11/21.

Because the OBBB obligates a lot of spending and they can't do it without a CR. $45B for immigrant detention facilities, $50B for border wall construction, $32B for new Defense Dept shipbuilding....no money to spend without a CR.

yeah but there's no CR since 10/1 why *must* there be one after 11/21 or by Thanksgiving or by any day?

Senate will vote later today? If they agree to extend the ACA for one year, the government will be reopened likely on Wednesday?

Johnson's excuse for keeping the House out of session is that it already passed a CR...which expires on 11/21.

Sure, he can continue to keep the House out of session after 11/21. But large swaths of the government - particularly military and LEOs - will be working for no pay.

Basically, after 11/21 his bluff gets called.

Really disappointing. I was rooting for this to be a workable compromise, and get us back next week.
