It will likely be a package designed and drafted by the Senate, the House will just need to vote "Yes" to get it moving.

So yeah, two more weeks before we see anything happen. Federal government reopens at 12:01AM on Monday, the 24th.

I've been saying this for weeks.

oh yeah? show me the post(s)

Sure, I predicted it a few times:

Yes, give the baby his bottle. See what happens.

At this point, I'm thinking the GOP is trying to keep Congress out of session until Trump dies of natural causes.

I initially guessed mid November – picked Nov 13. As it gets closer, I’m thinking more along the lines of November 21.

I hope the Democrats pass the cr with the November 21 date a few days ahead of the deadline so that we can get some pay before going back into shutdown.

One reason I picked November 21 is because I am a not-yet-furloughed employee and that’s the day our working capital $ runs out. In 33 years, I have never been furloughed. Honestly I would like to be furloughed once! But if history repeats itself… Nov 21 will be it. 🤣

Dude, "passing the CR" means inflicting an 80% budget cut to the State Department because that's what is in the OBBB. "Pass the clean CR" is the next step in actually implementing the OBBB. For many of you on DCUM, if they "pass the CR" you'll get back pay for a few paychecks and then you'll get RIF'd before the end of the year.

It's not going to happen.

They are waiting until Nov 21 CR to expire and then the Senate will show their hand - some sort of budget package that will get 60 votes and the House will need to accept it without changes.

State’s budget is gonna get trashed. Overseas layoffs and more domestic RIFs are planned for sure.

I heard that even before the furlough started. (From a friend in polling who had been speaking with someone in Govt Affairs.) I don't know if I totally believe it, and I certainly hope it isn't true, but having heard "the midterms" once reframed my entire thinking about the whole thing.

I maintain my previous estimate of "just before Thanksgiving". In a spirit of coming together for the American people, blah blah blah.

Pressure on whom? Democrats? People missing leisure travel does not trump crushing healthcare.

Trump does not care. He is not up for election again; even if he “runs” in 2028 — elections will be a different flavor.

GOP republicans maybe sort of care, but they will not betray Trump to that degree — they fear political violence.

The fact that a few people leaped to that possibility is distressing.

But what are Feds going to do? The longer it goes on, if they quit the may forgo back pay. And no one is hiring anyways. We are really in a bind, like working for a startup and hoping for some upside eventually.

For who? All of donors, MOC, and their staff are actually very sensitive to this pain point.

NGL, don't quit. Just go out and get another job in the meantime or do whatever you need to do to survive.

No one is checking anything right now, there isn't even an Ethics Office to review your proposal for outside work. The lights are on, but nobody is home.
