Will Manchin and Sinema crack?

How can we give all undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship when they are pouring over the border in the current numbers? Biden's policies have discouraged control of the border and the results also bring us more human trafficking and drug smuggling in other areas. That is a fact.

The American people want immigration reform. But, first they want a secure border. How many times has this been ignored?

I’m confused. When does the GOP actually want to work with the Democrats on any issue facing America? If you’ll come back to the actual topic, Manchin and Sinema are obstructing a bill that’s ridiculously popular with their constituents. The GOP is, once again, blocking it in its entirety, too. So we’re supposed to believe that the GOP will work with the Democrats on the border? Since when? You guys LOVE complaining about the border.

Biden has destroyed any chance of Republicans working with him on immigration. He has shown no interest in border security. We can't trust him.
As far as when will Republicans work with Democrats... do a deep dive back in history and research Reagan's amnesty plan. There's your answer.

And, Manchin and Sinema are not obstructing at all. This social spending is not nearly as popular as you claim.
And, if their constituents don't like it, they will be voted out. But, that will not happen.....

Whoa....let's see. GOP Senator Tim Scott had a police reform bill. No dice from Dems.

Here's a sample from WAPO:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/01/26/democrats-have-vigorously-used-filibuster-its-pathetic-they-now-wont-pledge-protect-it/

"When Schumer was minority leader, he vigorously used the filibuster to do just that. Under his leadership, Democrats used the filibuster to block funding for construction of Trump’s border wall in 2019. They used it not once, but twice to impede passage of the Cares Act — forcing Republicans to agree to changes including a $600 weekly federal unemployment supplement. They used it in September and October to stop Republicans from passing further coronavirus relief before the November election. They used it to halt Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-S.C.) police reform legislation so Republicans could not claim credit for forging a bipartisan response to the concerns of racial justice protesters. They used it to block legislation to force “sanctuary cities” to cooperate with federal officials, and to stop a prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion, bans on abortions once the unborn child is capable of feeling pain, and protections for the lives of babies born alive after botched abortions."

By holding the line on excessive spending and opposing repeal of the filibuster, Sinema has spent some of her political capital on the Left to win over a critical mass of independents, as well as generate goodwill from Republicans. A newly released poll conducted by OH Predictive Insights, conducted from Sept. 7-12, shows how unique her political coalition of support is in these tribal times. Her net favorability is plus-7 (46 percent favorable, 39 percent unfavorable) in a state that President Biden carried by a single point. While just 56 percent of Democrats view her favorably, she holds an above-water (plus-6) rating with independents and unusually high 40 percent favorability rating among Republicans.

All told, her overall favorability rating is a notch higher than newly elected Sen. Mark Kelly. He polls between 43 and 44 percent against all Republicans in next year’s Senate race. His net favorability rating is plus-4, with 47 percent viewing him favorably and 43 percent viewing him unfavorably.

Angry progressive pundits are convinced that Sinema’s independent positioning will doom her in a Democratic primary. That is a total misread of her political situation.

Yep. She's going to win re-election in 2024. Whether she runs as an Independent or a Democrat remains to be seen but she has substantial support among the Republicans, just like McCain did with the Democrats.

From 1987 - 2018 he represented Arizona. Winning election after election. In that time he had 3 'partner' Senators who couldn't keep or didn't want to stay in their seats. And in that time since - 3 Senators have sat in McCain's seat - with Mark Kelly being the latest.

If Sinema can be half as long-lived, she'll be doing good.

Lol, she needs support among independents. Arizona is about 1/3 each. Her "popularity" has only increased among republicans. It has decreased among the other 2/3. It's not working because her electoral analysis is about as deep and well thought out as her reconcilliation bill position

Did you read the PPs stats?

While just 56 percent of Democrats view her favorably, she holds an above-water (plus-6) rating with independents and unusually high 40 percent favorability rating among Republicans.

Seems she has high ratings with Republicans, more positive than negative ratings with Democrats, and is good with independents as well. She seems to be just fine and better placed than anyone who would challenge her.

Dig deeper. Support among independents is dropping, it's just not negative yet, and the republican support growth is among the subset that won't vote for her no matter what. It's all superficial.

Like Democrats wouldn't vote for McCain? How else did he get 60% of the vote total in AZ? It's a special state. Party is important and principles for the Senators even more so.

It's the subgroup of Republicans that are "supporting" her that wont. The Gosar Constituency.

But here, look at the polls yourself
https://morningconsult.com/2021/10/04/sinema-manchin-approval-rating/

She's now underwater with independents and has a lower approval rating among them then Dems. Her strategery has backfired bigtime.

Willing to bet that if the poll were taken after the "bathroom consultation" that she would have better results....

Sorry, I just don't believe political polls at all anymore. They have been proven wrong over and over.

Also, even if her approval rating is declining, then so what? So is Biden's. Should he give up on his priorities?

Good.

Under Arizona law, it is illegal to knowingly film another person without their consent while in a restroom, according to the outlet.

"The ASU Police Department is working with Senator Sinema and conducting a full investigation of the incident that occurred Sunday,” said ASU’s spokesperson Adam Wolfe. "Due to the active status of the investigation, we are unable to provide more information at this time."

The activists suspected of making the recording are from the political group “Living United for Change in Arizona,” which advocates for easier immigration laws, and amnesty for all immigrants illegally in the U.S.

So I’ll say again, after you read the Mother Jones article: when has the GOP negotiated in good faith with the Democrats in recent memory? They don’t actually want to address any of the problems they say are soooo pressing. They’re just loving the sht out of Sinema throwing a wrench in the works.

No, it is a bad look for the activist. It was against the law. And, then she had the audacity to post on social media.
The ASU police are investigating because not only did these activists break the law by filming in a bathroom, but they also fraudulently gained access to the building in which she was teaching.
I hope they are arrested.
I guess you haven't seen how they followed her onto the plane and confronted her there. Or, in the airport in DC. They think they are going to get their way. They won't.
More likely that Sinema will change her registration to Republican.

Good, indeed. Who in their right mind thinks it's legal - much less decent - to record someone in the bathroom?? I hope they're prosecuted.

NP. This is too funny. A LWNJ insisting that his/her version - from a LWNJ source - is the "truth." Here's some relatively neutral reporting on the subject.

"Here's what we know," Scott said. "We have about $1 billion in grant money that goes to police. When you start saying, 'In order to receive those dollars, you must do A, B and C. And if you don't do a B and C, you literally lose eligibility for the two major pots of money — the Byrne grants and the COP grants' — when you tell local law enforcement agencies that you are ineligible for money, that's defunding the police, there's no way to spin that."
