OP is just a person with too much time on their hands. People have already said that they've had similar experiences where the official didn't "act like the ID was kryptonite." |
so we give up the sanctity of elections because there may be two Amish people in the state? |
| I have an idea! Let’s investigate whether not requiring an ID leads to any significant voter fraud! Let’s also investigate whether requiring an ID prevents eligible voters from voting! Oh, wait... |
| You can’t even collect welfare benefits without photo ID. Planned parenthood requires photo ID |
There are 1,500+ Amish living in Maryland. By comparison, Garett Park (where Floreen used to be mayor) has a population of about 1,000. That's just one group who may not have IDs. Others are those who are homeless, elderly, or otherwise don't have the money or ability to easily request or renew their ID. Why require it and disenfranchise voters? There have been no reports of widespread voter fraud whatsoever. |
If she doesn't need to see it she doesn't need to see it. Forcing it upon her was aggressive on your part so perhaps she was worried about your demeanor. You sound like you were trying to make a scene and that could be scary for a volunteer. |
| I literally had my id in my hand and I attempted to hand it to her like if you were at passport control and handed your passport to them |
Passport control requires your passport. MD election judges do not want them. So keep your germy ID to yourself. |
Maryland is soDemocrat do you really need voter fraud anymore? |

Here is what you need to get an ID card in MD:
http://license.mva.maryland.gov/checklist/checklist.aspx 1. Birth certificate or valid US passport. Less than half of Americans have a passport. Who knows where their birth certificate is? 2. Original social security card or a W-2 or pay stub. Who still has their original social security card? And if you don't have a job, you don't have a W-2 or pay stub. 3. 2 proof of residential status in MD, like a utiliity bill, copy of tax return, credit card statement. Low-income, homeless, and unemployed people won't have any of these. You also need $24 and to go to the Maryland MVA during their open hours (8:30-4:30 M-F, 8:30-12pm Saturday). There are 4 locations in MoCo: Gaithersburg, Walnut Hill, White Oak, Glenmont. Only one (Glenmont) is near a metro station. Yes, all this can be done, but it's a lot of hurdles to go through, especially for an elderly or unemployed person who would need to do all this just so they can vote. |
Probably because you were acting like a dick about it. |
i got mine while i was unemployed |
All I did was try to hand it to her |
It's all possible, it's just difficult. If you're unemployed, you may still have a past pay stub or your social security card. The point is, it's not that easy for certain groups to get ID cards in MD, so requiring them in order to vote would make it very difficult for them to be able to vote. |
| Low income and unemployed people have bills to pay so they have bills to show as proof of residency. Homeless people might not be residents . Handing them a pint of vodka to vote isn’t proof of residency. How do you know they won’t be in DC or VA tomorrow? And we give up the sanctity of the vote for homeless people? |
