Because you weren’t challenged. If you were challenged, they’d ask for ID. If you could provide it, they’d let you vote regularly. If not, you would get a provisional. I don’t get why you care so much?  They are told to tell people ID isn’t necessary.  Rifling through your stuff may take too long and hold up a line.

OP is just a person with too much time on their hands.  People have already said that they've had similar experiences where the official didn't "act like the ID was kryptonite."
