I’m a man and I could literally show up and vote as my female neighbor becatse it. Would violate law to question gender identity
Do you know their DOB and party affiliation too? You do have to answer those questions. They can challenge you and make you vote provisional. You still get your vote recorded but it goes through an extra verification process.
if they challenge you why did they refuse to look at my MD license?
Because you weren’t challenged. If you were challenged, they’d ask for ID. If you could provide it, they’d let you vote regularly. If not, you would get a provisional. Some voter authority cards say “show ID” and for those people, they are required to show ID.
so why did she act like my ID was kryptonite?
I don’t get why you care so much? They are told to tell people ID isn’t necessary. Rifling through your stuff may take too long and hold up a line. Or maybe she was just a little awkward in the way she did it. It’s hard to get sufficient numbers of election judges with early voting. So many are first tiimers.
my id was in my hand and I was trying to hand it to her and she acted like it was kryptonite.
If she doesn't need to see it she doesn't need to see it. Forcing it upon her was aggressive on your part so perhaps she was worried about your demeanor. You sound like you were trying to make a scene and that could be scary for a volunteer.
