Man working in daycare center

My BIL used to work at a daycare. He was a favorite among the boys, they climbed all over him like playground equipment. I would be very uncomfortable in a 1:1 situation but on camera in a group setting it is safer. Also, it sounds like this guy didn't want to be there, he got called in because too many people got called out. A man who enthusiastically wants to work with kids, volunteering to babysit for free is a red flag (yes I am aware this is sexist)

As much as it would suck more for everyone, they should have closed if they didn’t have appropriate staff ratios. I get that parents would have been inconvenienced and infuriated and possibly risked job loss. I don’t have a great solution, but having subs who aren’t cleared is not an acceptable one.

They could call parents and inform them and give them the choice.

It feels like people pay out the nose for daycare yet it is difficult to attract and retain quality staff. Does anybody know why this is?

I’ve never met this man. As far as I know he was never background checked.

Personally we would NOT choose a center with a male teacher due to statistics. I know others feel differently but I do feel like we have the right to know beforehand.

This would upset me, but I ask if any teachers or substitutes are male when I tour a daycare/preschool. I make it clear I am not ok with that, and I expect to be informed if anything changes.

My kids had four male teachers between them in preschool/daycare. They were always the favorites. During recess, the women teachers all just sit and observe the play. The male teachers were always in there running around playing chase and digging for treasures. It was wonderful. Changing was always done with an open door anyway.
