Supreme Court stays decision to stop Virginia purge of noncitizens

Anonymous
Virginia has Same Day Registration (SDR). Nadra Wilson, or any citizen who has been mistakenly removed from the voter roles, can go to the precinct where she lives and register on Election Day.

She can show her ID and fill out the registration form. The election officer helping her will give her a ballot and she will be able to vote. Citizens can get this mistake fixed fairly easily in Virginia.

I don't think that noncitizens should be voting, but there's no evidence that noncitizens are voting. I do think that removing citizens from the voter rolls, something that has been shown to happen as part of this "purge", with no way for them to get things corrected before the election, during the 3 months before the election when the National Voter Registration Act clearly states changes to the rolls can't be made, is wrong.

they selected "im not a us citizen" on the application

Let me say that again

THEY SELECTED "I'M NOT A US CITIZEN" ON THE APPLICATION.

Here is teh Virginia voting application:

Show me where there is a "I am not a US citizen" checkbox. There's not.

I'm confused too, because the news on NBC4 last night showed a form where some of them did select "not a US citizen." I think it was at the DMV maybe? I'm curious what form it was too.

I read that it was a DMV form. Given that people can change from not being a citizen to becoming one it seems like relying on old forms from the DMV would include people who are now citizens.

It also seems likely that people are going to make mistakes whether that’s checking the wrong box on the DMV form, or accidentally registering to vote because they didn’t understand the form.

All the more reason for the SC to not rule the way they did. Youngkin is a thug.

Curiously, he wasn't registered to vote. If we ignore registration, he could vote.

+1000 i don't understand how people think breaking the law is reasonable now!

I don't understand why people like you or the one before think it's reasonable to be outraged without even learning what the issue is. I don't understand how people who fail to educate themselves on issues, feel the need to chime in.

Yes, we know that Republicans don’t think laws apply to them.

They usually don't even take up that kind of a case. This was orchestrated, outcome predetermined.

Thomas probably got a luxe vacation out of it.

This is horrific
It sets the stage for more Republican cheating

It’s only 1600 votes however we are screwed that they took this now ugh

This has nothing to do with VA or its 1600 purged votes. Republicans know VA is solidly blue, and no change of voter rolls here will change that.

This is about setting a legal precedent to challenge the rolls in 7 swing states, and the corrupt SCOTUS just handed that to Republicans.

Yup. This was for the other states whose Republican AGs were lining up after Miyares.

Why not?

No human being is illegal.

I don't see anyone using the word "illegal" but one of the privileges of citizenship is the right to vote. People who are not US citizens can vote in elections in their country of citizenship.

For example, there were huge lines to vote in El Salvador's recent election, in the DC area. Their government set up polling places so their citizens who lived here in the US could vote easily.
