Love it when people on DCUM are condescending and wrong. It’s very easy to be swept up in this even if you never self-identified as a no citizen. If you read the actual court filings by DOJ instead of lazy news reports you would know that Virginia is using partial ID matches— so anyone with similar names is being targeted for purging even if there are different birth dates and other information in the system indicating that the person is a citizen. A PW county elections office investigated and found that every single one of the people on the list they were given who tried to vote was a citizen. |

You have absolutely no idea if that’s true or not. No one has gone through the list to figure this. The closest we have is one example where out 200 names 160 had never tried to vote so no one tracked down their status and the 40 who had tried to vote were all citizens. |

This. And even if they weren't, federal law does not allow changes in the voter roll this close to an election. If VA needed to take this action, they needed to do it earlier. Why does the court not follow the law? That is a much bigger concern in the big picture and in establishing precedent than this particular case with a relatively small number of records that won't affect our state's outcome. |

Yet, not a single eligible person was disenfranchised. Not one. Not even ONE. Eligible voters can register SAME DAY in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and cast a provisional ballot. Please explain how anyone has been disenfranchised (hint: they haven’t). |

It is zero votes. In VA you can register the day of the election. If you are one of these 1600 people and you find you are not registered when you go to vote, if you are a citizen you register right then. You do not have to prove you are a citizen, you just have to affirm. |

But not just any noncitizens, these 1,600 (let’s call it 1,500 for the sake of argument), REGISTERED. Ie they registered to vote. It does not matter whether this 1,500 actually voted or not: - To register to vote, you must swear you’re a citizen under penalty of criminal prosecution. (Brennan center). Let’s prosecute them. All 1,500 of them. These are criminals under our law. |

I’m not dodging the question. You are right that of someone fills out the voter registration form they can also vote a provisional ballot but why should they be required to do that when the rate of false positives is so high (verging on 100%) and Congress explicitly told the state to stop doing this 90 days before an election? It’s all so Youngkin can grandstand and he can eff himself. |

Nearly all of the 1,600 self-identified noncitizens turned out to be: noncitizens. The minuscule number of U.S. citizens among the 1,600 received full notification by mail: SENT TO THEIR LEGAL ADDRESSES OF RECORD. NPR lied when they claimed notices were “sent to the wrong address.” Everyone is legally required to change their drivers license if they move. There were no “wrong addresses,” only legally-invalid addresses. But you still won’t answer the question: - how has anyone been disenfranchised here? They can register and cast provisional ballots on Election Day. Problem solved! |

I literally said “you are right that…”. I’m also explained why it’s a crappy outcome to rely on same day voter registration to fix this. Now why won’t you admit that there is no evidence or reason to believe that the 8 people they’ve already found to be citizens in the 1600 are the only citizens in that pile. Chances are it’s anywhere from 400 to 1200 or more but no one knows because no one does any due diligence or checking. And why don’t they give people more than 14 days so at least the mail gets to them when they move (oh, because it’s their legal address 🙄) |
