Player was told they were cut and will not be offered a spot this week.

Arlington parent here and I think that sounds unusual. If it was a situation like PP was saying that the parents were unreliable, sure that could happen but they would probably give you a heads up first in one way or another.

I have, however, seen enough mistaken emails and missed deadlines that I would not rule out a mistake. If the decision truly feels like it came out of nowhere, definitely follow up.

Kid is reliable and well behaved and practices/plays well, attends all practices and events, comes prepared and attentive. Kid at same level as teammates. Nobody on the team stands out as that much more skilled. This is not a bottom level team. Kid was cut to make room for new kids entering from outside ASA travel.

Let's wait until after 5/22. There might be something lost in translation.

Wait, WHAT!? Well now all of us waiting for Arl decisions (which, from what I gather, is still most Arl players) have to know what team this is!

for the team u were expecting your kid to be on next year, will the coach be changing?

OK, send an email. Just say he is disappointed to not receive an offer and wants to know what he can do to improve upon his skills for the next tryout.

Have you seen what is happening at McLean? Arlington has had to handle a significant number of McLean families looking to move to Arlington, which is going to affect kids trying out. Arlington is trying to field the best teams, and with so many players looking to jump ship from McLean, Arlington has to make room for the top players coming over from McLean.

Is it fair to current ARL players? No.

Is it best for the club? Yes, the Arlington teams are likely going to be pretty strong next year if they can steal some of the top McLean players.

This is what I was wondering. We had always been told no kids are dropped. Once you are in, you are in and they invest in your training. Guess that info was wrong.

This is not true, for any travel soccer program. If there are players who are significantly better from outside, they will get rid of you. If they are just slightly better, the club will likely just keep as is, that is true.

They may also just be giving you a heads up that you wont be on current team and moving down so you have time to move to a different club A lot of parents would rather move clubs then have a kid move down a couple of teams. This time of year is terrible for almost everyone. The coaches hate it the parents hate it and the kids that get moved down hate it. As most people have said they should require that clubs wait until everyone is done in early June then have tryouts and offers all at the same time. There is nothing worse then going into the final tournament of the year or a big game for a division and all everyone is talking about is who is moving up or down.

Starting to wonder if it’s possible they miss the 5/22 deadline if they haven’t even gotten second team offers out yet…

As of yesterday they are still evaluating at least some second team players.

What were you basing that on?

Who told you that? That is not true. Kids move down so that must mean my logic that some kids are also moved out.

Several parents with older kids (highschool
age) have told me this too. They keep all the kids assuming they have enough interest to form a team.

Maybe we will find out sometime before practices begin in August.

Arlington is taking a very long time with offers this year, and little to no communication from coaches or the club.

As PP said, ARL has to deal with a significant increase in players from McLean trying out this year, making it much more difficult and more volatile than prior years. It’s going to take a little time to settle the top 2-3 teams, but they are working on it. The teams should be more competitive if they get it right, so the club is trying to be very deliberate in how they approach this year’s team make-ups.

New—but not outside new—players practicing with or guesting with top teams.
