OMG me too. Now that I work from home I can barely get a walk in. I needed that structure!!! |
Op here again. I am so inspired by all of you! I got up at 5:30am and did an arms and abs workout. I can probably do some walking/jogging during their activities if I can time it right. I don't belong to a gym right now but may join again. I don't live near an OTF.
Thank you again, this has been really really helpful |
When the kids were in lower ES, I started a boot camp program (5:30-6:30am). Spouse got up with the kids a little after 6:00. It was the only time that worked. 18 years later, I'm still doing an early morning exercise routine |
This is great advice. I am also an elementary teacher. I get up at 4:15 2 days per week and run and do some type of strength work. I do the same on the weekend, but later. Throughout the day I do 5 minute workouts. I do a series of core work before I eat lunch. I do some squats/ lunges/ plyo metrics before I get in my car. Upper body when I have planning. It all adds up. |
I go to the gym before work and then shower at the gym on premises before going into the office. Today is one of those rare days where I opted to work out in the evening and it didn't happen. Mornings work best for me. |
Do you have kids? I can’t even imagine this schedule with a child. Pre-kid, absolutely. But now? No. |
I go to the office most work days. My commute is only 25 minutes. Need to be in the office by 9:30am, but am usually in the office until 6:30-7pm. Have three young kids. I either run outside or workout with Peloton strength classes on the app Monday-Friday between 6:30-7:30am. Wake up at 6am. Try to make dinner in the morning since I get home late. |
You have to do it in the morning. On days I go to OTF or Barre, I am in the earliest classes (5 am for OTF, 6 am for Barre). If it’s a rest day, I go on a 3 mile walk around my neighborhood between 5-6 am or so. When my kids were little, I would do home workouts with dumbbells in the morning. I go on a walk when I get home from work as well. You are most likely not going to do it in the evening so go to bed early and just get it done first thing in the morning. |
Up at 4.40am
Monday - HIIT class Tuesday - weightlifting Wednesday - Pilates Thursday - weightlifting Friday - HIIT Saturday - weightlifting Sunday - weightlifting/conditioning I never get 7 days in but aim for it. I work 50+ hours a week and travel a lot. I find classes in cities I travel to |
You should NOT be aiming for 7 days. Your body needs to rest, jeez, your cortisol must be sky high if you’re attempting this 7 days a week |
I work full time (mid-50s, married) but I work from home. So that does change things for me, as it means I no longer go to the gym. I just can't get myself to GO somewhere to exercise when it isn't part of my routine.
Here's my current routine, and it does change up. Get up around 5 or 5:30 - I don't set an alarm. M W F - Run 3 miles on street, 30 minutes of yoga T Th - Body Weight Exercises (15 minutes) and then 30-40 minutes of vinyasa yoga. S-S - 40-60 minutes yoga, whatever kind, depending upon what my body is telling me. Every day - walk 10-15 minutes intermittently a few times during the day just to get up and moving. I aspire to do more biking/rowing, but I like to be outside and I don't bike in the dark, our stationary bike is downstairs, and our rower ... well, I don't like it. |
I am a teacher too but don't have kids at home.
I workout nearly every day but 2 days is just walking. I teach fitness classes 3/4 times a week - I teach one 4:30 pm class, a 6 am class and a 6 pm class. It all works out. the job isn't the issue, the kids at home are. I have lots of free time. |
Same. I’m a white collar office worker, and need to get my kids to school which starts at 7am and the whole drop off is done by 830 — so then head to work, work 8.5 hours, then start kid pickup, make dinner, drive kids to activities shuffles. That often doesn’t end until 8 or 9 pm, and even then we would be home hanging with kids or helping homework. Once everyone is asleep (ideally my spouse too because I don’t want to miss hang out time with spouse) I sneak off to 24 hr gym at 1030 or so. Waking up at 5am would be great but I would need to get to bed by 930 to have even a chance of that happening. |
So no kids? |
DP - why not? I'm not a teacher, but I regularly go to early morning workout classes. My kids are in bed by 9 at the latest and usually just getting up when I get home from my workout. I've done early mornings since they were babies. And for many years before, of course, but I found this workout schedule ideal with young kids and full-time work. |
