If you work full time: workout schedule?

Anonymous
Please don't weigh in if you are a sahp parent or work part time. I used to work part time and I was able to fit exercise in. Now that I'm full time I'm really struggling. I do not work from home and have no time to fit exercise in on my lunch break, which is very short. I have teens who need me after school.

Please tell me what your workout schedule is and how you fit it all in. Thx!

Elementary teacher. I wake up at 4:45-5am during the week. Sleep in extra 30 mins on my "tidy up house" morning. I have to do it in the morning - I'm mentally drained in the evenings.

Mon: run
Tues: run
Wed: rest, tidy up house
Thurs: run
Fri: rest
Sat: long run (for me this is like 5 miles)
Sun: strength training class

I used to have to go into the office. I religiously went to orange theory from 6am-7am. I then walked the stairs at the office a few times a day (8 flights) and would use my lunch to walk on the WOD (I worked in Reston) I was in the best shape of my life. Now that I wFH my day is unstructured and I hardly exercise. I work better under time constraints.

Op here-- also elementary teacher. What time do you go to bed? I have teens who are up later due to activities and I find it hard to go to bed earlier to get in the sleep I need to just wake up at 6am. Im already aiming for 10:30. I could wake up at 5, but it seems painful. But maybe I'll have more energy if I do it!

Everyone is so different! I feel like if I worked from home it would be easier to fit exercise in--no commute time, access to weights on a lunch break, don't necessarily have to shower

elem pp here - I'm in bet by 9pm, at the latest. Sleep is critical to me getting through the day.

How about waking up at 5:30, and doing something short? It doesn't have to be an hour workout. If you wake up earlier, do you think you'd want to go to sleep earlier?

Morning workouts aren't for everyone, and that's ok. I have colleagues that do it in the afternoon. I just know that after-work workouts are not possible for for my brain and body.

I'm an evening exerciser usually on weekdays. Two weeknights a week I will go the gym at 7:30 pm. On one of my WFH days I will run in the morning before work, which does not require me to wake up earlier than normal. And I work out on both weekend days too.

I'm also completely spent at the end of the day. I do think I could do somewhat from 5:30-6, with weights or yoga videos. I do run on the weekend, but that's really it. I could go to bed earlier but I'll barely see my spouse.

It's so hard to balance everything!!

When I worked in. The office I took yoga on my lunch hour. Not hot yoga, just regular. Ate lunch at my desk after.

Teacher here. I go to a 5am Orange theory class 3-4 days a week. 85% of the class is teachers. I’ve made some friends through it as we share teaching struggles, workout victories, etc.

I’m in bed by 9:30 up at 4:35.

I have a teachers schedule and I get up at 5:15 every morning. I walk from 5:30-6:30 and then do weights or a video from 6:30-7:00. I shower and get ready and am out the door by 8 to get my job by 8:20.

This only works if I am committed to prepping the night before- lunches packed, clothes laid out, dishes done, etc.

It works well for me! After school, my kids have too many needs to consistently find time. I’m also tired and would much rather hang out with my family.

This is probably unhelpful as it sounds like you get up earlier than me, but I workout from 10:30-11:30 in the evening. Quick shower and bed, then I wake up with the kids at 645.

M: wake up at 5:45am to do a 30 minute yoga video
T: wake up at 5:15am, run 3-4 miles
W: wake up at 4:45am, in-person bootcamp exercise class with strength focus at 5:15am
T: off day, wake up at 6:15am
F: wake up at 5:15am, run 3-4 miles

I sleep in on weekends (until about 7am when my kids wake me up). I will usually do one long run on the weekend but weekend schedules are unpredictable. Sometimes we do a family hike or some other movement instead.

Only before my (3) kids wake up or after they go to sleep. Kids are young so they're in bed by 7:30 so getting in an 8-9pm workout is usually doable though it eats into time with my spouse. And it usually is at night because I'm not a morning person at all.

I am registered for a yoga class one night a week and schedule drop-ins as I feel like I can fit them in beyond that.

It's hard but the exercise keeps me sane.
