If you are relatively fit, how long can you hold a plank?

Who sits there and tries to make plank records?

I’m in fantastic shape but I have no idea how long I can hold a plank. I incorporate planks as part of a lager workout now and then, but never for the sake of planking as long as possible

37. Usually 90 sec, sometimes 2 min. But I also have a shoulder and knee issue that are the reasons I have to stop.

You are all so full of it. The marines are now doing planks instead of crunches for their physical fitness test and the maximum points are for 3 minutes, minimum 1 minute and 15 seconds. Now way most of you middle age folks are easily hitting 3+ minutes.

I challenge all new posters to actually max out a plank right before they respond. No way these PPs are true.

Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, but I too am shocked by the numbers some of you are putting out. I consider myself to be more than "relatively fit", I am definitely on the upper end of that with a lot of my exercise focusing on my core - and I can hold 90 seconds max. Female mid-50's.

I posted up thread about my friend saying exactly what you said so I got on the floor and planked for 10 minutes. Why is it so hard to believe that it's just not that hard for some of us? She runs 5-7 miles and I can't run 500 feet to save my life. It's all relative.

My kid has a Fitbit and she likes to time herself and I will join her on the floor. That's how I know.

No, this is just what being "relatively fit" means. I wouldn't attempt to run the NYC marathon or do a triathalon, but I am absolutely a better-than-average athlete. I've been working out since I was 7 years old. I eat pretty clean, rarely drink, and am active every day. I focus on core, balance and flexibility with cardio and strength thrown in kind of as an afterthought.

Lol. On the internet, everyone can plank for 10 minutes.

Here are some averages, for perspective:

PP, you somehow planked twice as long as an elite athlete.

10 EARTH minutes? This year? You can currently, right now, plank that long? I salute you.

Might want to work on that cardio though, that doesn’t seem healthy.

Very interesting article thanks for sharing. I’ve been doing a daily plank since the New Year to challenge myself, and have worked up to 2:10. Really feels more like kind over matter though, I bet I could do longer if I had to. I’m interested in the other body weight articles too. I might try to do the reverse plank and dead hang next.

I am really doubting college kids only being able to plank for 90 seconds?

I am not sure, maybe I will test myself later! But I did a peloton class last month where I did one minute in high plank and then directly into one minute side plank on each side and did that without a break (it was hard and yes each arm gets a break) but I feel like totally fresh I could get to 3 minutes pretty confidently?

It might just be a practice thing, I do core classes all the time and hold one minute planks as a matter of very regular exercise.

I feel like one minute is STANDARD. I know I can do 2.

LOL next time I'll make sure to film it so a total stranger on the internet will believe this completely insignificant fact. But you have to promise to watch the ENTIRE 10 minutes.

and, yes, I really did plank for 10 minutes on my forearms.

Yes, about a month ago when we were randomly hanging out at my house. I'm 45 female.

Yeah, I know I'm not in great shape when it comes to cardio but I really hate running. I do walk miles through and quite fast.
